EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Follows hospital/departmental policies and procedures. Contributes to the overall quality of services. Assumes responsibility for keeping informed about changes in policies and procedures.

2. Removes medical waste by boxing and sealing medical waste per department protocol. Collects and removes medical waste from user departments and patient areas. Labels medical waste containers. Transports medical waste to central storage area.

3. Maintains medical waste equipment and storage area by cleaning and sanitizing medical waste carts. Assesses medical waste carts for needed repairs. Cleans and sanitizes medical waste storage area. Performs periodic floor maintenance in medical waste storage area.

4. Maintains medical waste supplies by inventorying medical waste supplies. Stocks cart with PPE and necessary supplies. Notifies Housekeeping Office of supply needs.

5. Promotes quality service by displaying a professional image. Demonstrates a source of pride to all. Meets Departmental Quality Standards.

6. Ensures safe working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.

7. Utilizes PPE as required. 8. Adheres to regulatory agency regulations.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to operate a variety of cleaning equipment Must be able to lift 100 lbs Ability to push carts weight up to 800+ lbs WORK ENVIRONMENT: Collects and transports bio-hazardous waste Exposure to people with various degrees of mental and physical conditions and illnesses Stressful, fast paced Works in contaminated/isolation areas Construction/renovation areas Temperature extremes Works around foul odors Heavy Lifting
