Position Overview
The Senior Director, Safety & Operations plays a crucial role in administering AGA programs and initiatives. Key responsibilities include staffing technical committees and task groups comprised of members in AGA’s Operating Section. The Senior Director leads a variety of topics under the Enhanced Peer Review Program and will ultimately be responsible for leading process improvements in how the Program is administered. The Senior Director is involved with industry data collection on topics such as workforce safety, natural gas reliability and emerging fuels. In addition, the individual works with other AGA departments so that pipeline safety, public awareness, and utility workforce are duly represented by AGA to all stakeholders.
Role and Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and train members of the SOE team, providing professional guidance and counsel.
- Support the Enhanced Peer Review Program by leading reviews, staffing various topics, and training new staff.
- Serve as staff executive for technical committees and task groups.
- Administer AGA’s Enhanced Peer Review Program, identifying and implementing improvements, working closely with other AGA staff in SOE.
- Assist in developing AGA comments to proposed regulations for pipeline safety advocacy.
- Orchestrate workshops and webinars to highlight implementation strategies for recently promulgated regulations.
- Represent AGA at public meetings, conferences, committee meetings and workshops.
- Work actively to represent SOE on tasks that involve other AGA departments that involve Reliability, Safety, and Public Safety.
- Lead internal teams and member company representatives in developing and implementing programs to meet AGA’s strategic management objectives. This includes strategy development, background research, technical analysis, and the development of white papers and engineering studies needed to support AGA positions.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Working knowledge of natural gas distribution and/or natural gas transmission systems.
- Fundamental knowledge of engineering sciences and the ability to apply engineering sciences to issues associated with pipeline transportation of natural gas.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly, both orally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- Skilled in multitasking, analysis, and meeting tight deadlines.
- Ability to facilitate meetings of individuals with diverse opinions into consensus positions.
- Ability to organize and conduct major events (e.g., conferences, workshops).
- Proficiency in developing and delivering public presentations.
- At least 10 years of experience in natural gas operations, maintenance or pipeline design, construction and engineering.
- Approximately 20% domestic travel required.
