About the role

The employee will become part of the Purdy paintbrush manufacturing team in the Line Brushmaking department. Purdy manufactures professional painting tools of the highest quality. This position is responsible for making quality knots for professional brushes.

2nd Shift: 1:00pm - 9:00pm

Shift differential: $1.00/hr

Training may be on day shift - (TBD)

This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.

Job duties include contact with other employees, operating heavy machinery, and access to proprietary information, raw materials, finished merchandise, and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company’s staff, employees, and vendors. 

  • Check route sheet for specifications of brushes
  • Take brushes off conveyor, inspect them for quality, gage them and comb them straight
  • Place combed brushes in tray or on conveyor
  • Notify set up operator of any inconsistencies in quality of brushes
  • Must meet productivity and efficiency standards. Must make quality products with zero defects. Complete time sheets and other required paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
  • Use a scanner to scan on and off orders
  • Gather materials – ferrules, plugs, inserts, labels, pull down, pull down magnet
  • Set up the power chisel with correct chisel bar and set up the clamp
  • Remove a brush head from the lower conveyor belt
  • Loosen the filament in the brush head by holding the ferrule and pushing the filament down to drop the plug and center it.
  • Butt down the brush
  • Pull out any loose filament
  • Split the butt end of the filament
  • Put wooden plug(s) into the split, if no plug was inserted by the knot assembly
  • Butt down again
  • Chisel the butt end of the brush using the power chisel
  • Place the brush head on the pull down and close the clamp
  • Pull down the ferrule over the pull down
  • Release the clamp and fan top of brush forward
  • Take the brush off pull down
  • Tweeze out any turned ends
  • Comb brush straight
  • Put insert into the ferrule depending on brush type
  • Put Brushmaker name label onto the ferrule, can be done before or after
  • Inspect the brush head for quality
  • Place completed brush head on top conveyer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least (1) one year of experience working with machinery in a manufacturing environment
  • At least one (1) year of work experience monitoring the quality of raw materials and/or finished goods
  • Experience with fine manipulation (such as sewing, cutting hair or related activities)
