DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking an enthusiastic, articulate, motivated senior architect to joint our dynamic and growing architectural team at our Alexandria, VA office. A current focus of our team is on growing the Aviation, Transit, Ports and Marine, Federal (Department of Defense – DoD), Federal Civilian (non-DoD) Agencies, and Municipal project opportunities, along with market-driven diversification including Healthcare, Office, and Adaptive Re-Use. The successful candidate will be a licensed architect that demonstrates significant experience with Transportation clients delivering their large, complex Architectural/Engineering (A/E) projects, including CMAR, Design/Build delivery, that includes geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams composed of architects, civil engineers, building systems engineers and interior designers.
As an integral component of our Aviation Architecture/Engineering Practice, we are looking for an experienced licensed architect who is enthusiastic and motivated with responsibilities including design leadership and documentation excellence for a broad range of project types. This individual will have experience working with an architectural/engineering team in preparing documents for large projects for various public agencies and entities. Lead Aviation Architectural Design work from concept design through construction documentation for projects requiring interface and collaboration with various disciplines and consultants, demonstrate creative problem-solving, organizational skills, strong production management capabilities, and a good understanding of construction documents and constructability. Other responsibilities include:
- Prepares Architectural drawings and/or supervises their execution for all phases of a project.
- Interacts with clients and takes an active role in developing task fees, scopes and schedules.
- Performs analysis of design and construction systems, planning studies, design layouts and construction details.
- Conducts site and construction inspections for information-gathering purposes and prepares reports.
- Drives code analysis, material selections, and technical solutions.
- Lead and mentor a team of junior architectural staff
- Perform independent investigations, studies, and architectural analysis.
- Develop design details, plans and specifications.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, manage and oversee the work of less expert architects who assist with projects.
Professional requirements
- You’ll need a Bachelor's Architecture; MS/MA Architecture a plus
- Possess licensure as a Registered Architect (RA)
- Have 12+ years of experience in the design and documentation of architecture projects, including well-developed skills in comprehensive building design
- Design talent, graphic presentation and effective visual/verbal communication skills are essential.
- You should possess a proficient understanding of the inter-relationships among design/engineering subject areas, clients, and contractors.
- Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are crucial to success in this role
- Ideal candidate will need to demonstrate proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) digital literacy.
- Experience with graphics/rendering software is a plus.
