Description

The Director of Nursing at CLEARFORK ACADEMY is responsible for the daily medical operations of all residential treatment facility (facilities) in collaboration with the Medical Director. The DON is a member of the Clearfork Academy Leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director. The Director of Nursing will supervise and train the nursing staff (LVN, RN, MA) directly. In addition, he/she works closely with the Medical Director to ensure the medical and nursing components of the facility (facilities) are appropriately coordinated and meet all regulatory and patient care standards. Responsible for ensuring nursing coverage by maintaining scheduling demands for staff. Creates and makes recommendations for policies and procedures related to the medical environment and ensures they are followed accordingly.

Population Served: Person’s meeting DSM 5 criteria for substance use disorders with or without co-occurring psychiatric illness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for working in collaboration with the Medical Director in overseeing the management of the daily medical/clinical operations of the facility (facilities) while demonstrating ethical and professional conduct.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Clearfork Academy Leadership Teams.
  • Oversee compliance of nursing components with regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, 448, HHSC)
  • Participates in regular data collection, reporting (e.g., mandated by funding sources, regulatory agencies), strategic planning (financial and programmatic), and development and implementation of productivity standards with the Leadership team.
  • Participates in regulation of work and documentation, including the client admission, and authorization.
  • Participates in recruitment, retention and training of nursing and support staff.
  • Familiar with COVID-19 procedures and guidelines as well as infection control precautions. 
  • Responsible for working in collaboration with Director of Clinical Services on the schedule including permanent staffing and temporary/per diem staffing.
  • Appropriately documents clinical and administrative work. Documents nursing incidents and medication errors. Ensures to use the utmost of care in protecting the confidentiality of client records in accordance with State and Federal laws.
  • Collaborates as a member of the Clearfork Academy Treatment Team with medical and counseling staff regarding client medication management and treatment objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with all nursing and health care protocols. Presents changes, improvements or additions to protocols or nursing procedures to the team
  • As needed, provides direct patient care, including the reporting of observed changes in mental status and/or physical condition, response to emergencies, and safety risks.
  • Improves the safety of using medications, maintains and communicates accurate medication information and monitors the organizations medication management process.
  • Oversees and trains on Self Administration of Medication Process and competencies.
  • Sets objectives and long-term goals for the nursing department. 
  • Analyzes and correlates clinical data with clients medical and nursing care.
  • Provides direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency.
  • Understands and adheres to Clearfork Academy’s compliance standards as they appear in Clearfork Academy’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and legacy Clearfork Academy regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Develops and coordinates the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility. Implements the program by formulating, establishing, and evaluating policies and procedures related to patient care infection control measures throughout the facility. Performs an annual assessment and develops action plans from the prior year activities.
  • Oversees the development of policies and procedures for waived testing and infection control ensuring the establishment of said policies and procedures are current, approved and readily available.
  • Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Occasional on call
