We’re seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join us at the U.S. Coast Guard C5ISC in Alexandria, VA. In this hands-on role, you’ll design and lead transformative cloud initiatives that power critical Coast Guard operations. Leveraging deep expertise in AWS, Azure, and Python, you’ll architect scalable cloud-native solutions, guide development efforts, and ensure best practices across architecture, deployment, and security—while mentoring and driving innovation that directly strengthens national security.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable, resilient, and secure cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
- Establish technical excellence by creating reference architectures, design patterns, and standards for cloud implementations.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to development teams on cloud-native application design, deployment, and best practices.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to assess their potential impact and align adoption with organizational goals.
- Drive modernization initiatives, including large-scale cloud migrations, containerization, and microservices strategies.
- Champion DevOps practices by implementing infrastructure as code, automation frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Optimize cloud performance to improve reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency of applications and services.
- Architect secure environments by applying Zero Trust principles, defense-in-depth strategies, and IAM solutions.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and government regulations.
- Conduct security assessments to identify and remediate vulnerabilities in cloud environments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, development, security, and product teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Engage stakeholders to gather requirements, translate needs into technical solutions, and present recommendations to leadership.
- Facilitate customer onboarding by implementing consistent pathways for cloud adoption and smooth transitions.
- Maintain documentation of architectures, standards, and implementation methodologies for organizational knowledge sharing.
Basic Qualification:
- Requires BS and 12+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10+ years of prior relevant experience, additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum 6+ year of Administration experience with cloud-based applications (MS O365, SharePoint, Azure AD, AWS)
- Hands-on experience administering Windows Server environments, including creation, configuration, upgrades, migrations, and patching.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Azure AD, SAML, and related standards, procedures, and processes.
- Proficient with cloud platforms and tools: AWS Console, Azure, Elastic, Ansible, Jira, Confluence, Git, Bitbucket, and various SaaS offerings.
- Experience onboarding and integrating customer log data from AWS and Azure to on-premises or cloud-based analysis platforms such as Elastic or Splunk.
- Skilled in supporting AWS cloud-hosted applications, including deployments, patches, security checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to develop, optimize, and document administrative processes, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and operational workflows.
- Collaborates with SMEs and security teams to define and implement secure cloud architectures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Eligible to obtain an Entry of Duty (EOD) Public Trust.
- Performs operational and day-to-day administrative support, including issue troubleshooting, change management, and problem resolution.
- Clearance: This position requires candidates to have TS/SCI
