About you and this role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Technician in Midland, MI. This role will support plant facilities within Michigan Operations (MiOps). The Senior Environmental Health & Safety Technician shares responsibility for the implementation of the EH&S management system, in order to meet business objectives and to maintain the license to operate. Provides hands-on environmental, industrial hygiene (IH), and health and safety (H&S) activities for a specific plant. Requires full proficiency in a range of technical, operational, or analytical/scientific processes and procedures through job-related training and considerable on the job experience to perform a variety of work assignments. Acts as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implements detailed, task level, day to day Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) programs, utilizing the EH&S work process, standards and procedures.
  • Ensures that the Environmental, IH, and Health and Safety aspects of operating discipline are adequate and applied to achieve EH&S performance goals.
  • In most cases, would perform the role of section owner for the EH&S sections of operating discipline.
  • Acts as the facility resource for related EH&S information on procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Serves as plant contact for Environmental, IH, and Health and Safety issues.
  • Coaches teams and individuals on EH&S related tasks and activities.
  • Assists in developing and achieving area or plant EH&S goals.
  • Ensures compliance tasks are completed.
  • Performs/coordinates certain Environmental, and IH monitoring, data collection, analyzing and reporting for the Plant.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Associate’s degree/3+ years of relevant military experience OR a minimum of 3 years relevant operations experience with a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations

  • Be able to support plants that handle hazardous materials.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to apply software applications to respond to requests with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • This position requires the ability to build strong working relationships with diverse groups. The job duties are diverse and require quick, accurate and consistent decision making.
  • Able to communicate and relate well with those internal and external to the company.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities from multiple sources.
  • Ability to be an organized self-starter exhibiting good judgment and the flexibility to adapt to priority changes and demands.
