We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Buckner Children and Family Services division. As a Registered Nurse you will serve in a strategic function at Buckner Children and Family Services and will be responsible for the overall treatment of children with treatment service needs that include but are not limited to medically complex, intellectual developmental delays, or autistic spectrum disorder. What you'll do:

  • Participate as a member of the Domestic Foster Care & Adoption Network.
  • Ensures compliance with state Minimum Standard regulations, contract requirements and policies and procedures as it relates to foster care & adoption.
  • Provides oversight for foster and adoptive children that have treatment services and serve as Treatment Director, specifically medically complex needs, intellectual developmental disorders and autistic children and teenagers.
  • Perform a nursing assessment of treatment service children and teenagers to include documentation of the child’s diagnosed medical needs and selection of placement.
  • Lead or participate in the service planning process for the child’s care. Monitor the implementation of the service plans.
  • Document the outcomes for interventions used in the child’s care.
  • Provide direction and ensure follow up regarding serious incidents with treatment service children (i.e. medical complex, IDD and autistic).
  • Review medical records, including compliance with written physician orders.
  • Contact other professionals as needed for the child’s care.
  • Collaborate with others on the multi-dimensional team for the child, including caregivers of the child (i.e. foster, adoptive and biological parents and significant other adults).
  • Familiarize self with STAR Health services and service coordination.
  • Familiarize self with community resources not covered under STAR Health to provide to families after discharge from a foster home.
  • Participate in ongoing education regarding the assessment, treatment and risk management of clients with higher acuity of needs.
  • Facilitate monthly training for foster and adoptive families regarding medication administration, bloodborne pathogens and psychotropic medication.
  • Provide training on Adverse Childhood Effects with parents and community members on how to help children have safe and stable environments for children.
  • Provide regular continuing education to foster and adoptive parents, as well as other Buckner employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality as it relates to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Participate in making presentations to the general public when scheduled.
  • Report suspected child abuse/neglect to DFPS or appropriate law enforcement agencies.
  • Consult with supervisor on specific needs of clients.
  • Be available for on-call on weekends and holidays. Must be available 24/7 for new admissions, training, consultation, and oversight of the child’s care plan.

 What you’ll bring:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must have a current licensure by the Texas State Board of Nursing. Current status as an RN required.
  • Preferred certifications with Certified Pediatric Nurse.
  • Experience working with pediatric population that would include but not limited to medically complex, intellectual developmental delays, or autistic children.
  • Requires ability to acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification.
  • The position can function in a hybrid work arrangement but attendance in person at the office is required when requested.
  • Travel domestically as needed to monitor, assess, and help develop programs.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training as required; facilitate meetings regularly as defined by the communication framework and training as required.
