Senior Aviation Project Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking an enthusiastic, articulate, and motivated Aviation-focused Senior Project Manager/Architect to join our dynamic and growing Project Management team. This emerging market/practice role, based on our recent success with the Pittsburgh International Airport Terminal Modernization Program is responsible for continued strategic growth, development, and execution of Architecture/Building Engineering opportunities, projects, and qualifications in conjunction with our Aviation Market, regionally and nationally, positioning the Architecture Practice for growth, and ensuring project excellence. Promoting a seller-doer culture, this position is focused growing local/regional business development, relationships, and opportunities, as well as protecting established markets such as Federal/DoD, Aviation and Transportation, in conjunction with other senior leaders.

The candidate will be a licensed Architect who demonstrates successful experience with commercial aviation clients delivering A/E programs and projects, including management of geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams comprised of architects, interiors designers, civil engineers, and building systems engineers. Responsible for all aspects of program and project management, the candidate must also be adept in evaluating potential opportunities to determine probabilities of success, providing recommendations, determining project time frames, and funding limitations, outlining procedures for accomplishing project requirements, and allocating available resources to various project phases. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to develop new, and strengthen existing, positive relationships, both internally and externally, with colleagues and new clients, respectively. Articulate, concise, and consistent communication is essential for collaborating with leadership and project resources to outline workplan, responsibilities, quality management, risk assessment, and scope of authority, all the while ensuring that project milestones and objectives are accomplished within the prescribed scope, schedule, and budget parameters, clearly documenting, and communicating project progress to team and leadership. 

Other essential skills include creative problem-solving, organizational skills, financial project management skills, production management capabilities, and a proven understanding of construction documents and constructability.

PROGRAM/PROJECT MANAGEMENT

• Actively engage in robust, consistent communication with key existing clients/programs to determine needs, preferences, and future program opportunities. 
• Create and manage near and long-term goals for programs in which the candidate is engaged. 
• Routinely assess our program strengths and identify areas for improvement. Continually monitor program risks and strive to address and mitigate. 
• Develop/implement project work plans/methodologies for complex projects, as applicable. Lead projects/task orders for programs in which the candidate is engaged.
• Direct and coordinate activities of multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project progression per schedule, on budget, and within scope parameters.
• Coordinate throughout the Michael Baker building architecture-engineering enterprise, leveraging the strength and diverse array of talents of our organization to effectively meet our client’s needs.
• Lead and manage programs to ensure projects are delivered with excellence and quality to Client and Michael Baker standards.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Commercial Aviation A/E experience is required. Strategizes and leads dynamic, multi-disciplinary staff in the pursuit and execution of Aviation-focused projects.
• Proficient experience and understanding of interdisciplinary relationships between technical resources, clients, and stakeholders.
• Facilitates inter-office/inter-disciplinary collaboration, communication, and cooperation.
• Constructively critiques individual and team efforts, towards continuous improvement.
• Encourages uniformly high design and production standards and monitors projects to ensure that quality and production standards are met for all design and contract documents. 
• Build rapport and establish positive relationships with existing and prospective clients to ensure client-focused performance.
