Job Description:
In our Jesuit tradition, Student Engagement seeks to underscore the development of the whole person and particularly assist students in their transition and exploration at Fairfield University. Student Engagement empowers students to work together to build community, lead ethically, and value differences. Through interdivisional collaborations, especially between academic affairs and student affairs, Student Engagement connects students to curricular and co-curricular experiences that empower civic responsibility and personal growth.
The Assistant Director position is a 12-month position, including the summer months. The Assistant Director is responsible for organizing and administering leadership development programs, supervising and developing substance-free programming, and overseeing the government processes of the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA). This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Engagement.
Essential Functions:
Develop and support the growth of Leadership Development initiatives within the office and across campus:
Oversee the curriculum and program development of various Leadership Development initiatives, including the Exploring Leadership program, the Club Development workshop series, and the CliftonStrengths Trainings for elected/selected student leaders and the FYE Leadership Themed seminars.
Work with campus partners (Residence Life, Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs, Campus Ministry, Institutional Research, the Recreation Department, and Athletics) to offer leadership development opportunities to support their students and initiatives.
Coordinate the annual Student Leadership Conference for Fairfield University students.
Coordinate the annual Student Leadership Recognition Ceremony.
Chair and coordinate the Student Leadership Development Committee.
Manage the purchasing, communications, and redemption of CliftonStrengths Code management for campus.
Oversee and manage a $25,000 annual budget.
Manage and support the tracking of co-curricular leadership experiences for student leaders.
Provide overall direction and supervision of the Fairfield at Night (F@N) substance free programming board:
Develop a robust substance-free Late Night and Weekend programming calendar in collaboration with the student driven, and student focused, Fairfield at Night (F@N) programming board.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the F@N Team which plans, organizes, promotes and implements substance-free student programs and events that are focused on Thursday, Friday and Saturday late nights between 9 p.m. – 12 a.m., as well as holidays and other days as deemed necessary.
Meet with and invest in the leadership and professional development of F@N members by meeting with them on a regular basis, both individually, and as a group, and offering other on-going developmental opportunities (such as conferences, training sessions, etc.).
Provide fiscal oversight of the $90,000+F@N budget, including payroll of student employees, purchasing supplies for events, paying invoices and contracts in WorkDay system.
Develop a comprehensive marketing plan for F@N events, including updating the F@N Life@Fairfield Portal, F@N Instagram account, F@N Facebook group, physical and digital flyers, and other creative & innovative marketing.
Coordinate Fall Welcome programming with the Transition & Retention team within OSE.
Serve as one of the advisors to the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA):
Assist in the on-going leadership development and training of the 80+ Title-Holding Members of the Fairfield University Student Association (FUSA) through the development of workshops and planning of team-building activities.
Meet regularly with advisees and support them in their personal and professional development.
Help plan the FUSA End of Year Banquet in April, and the FUSA Inauguration Dinner/Ceremony in May each year.
Serve as the primary advisor to the FUSA Government Boards (Student Senate and Court):
Develop and train the government boards, comprised of the Student Senate and Court.
Advise the respective areas of the Student Senate, i.e. Academic Affairs, Student Life, Facilities, Technology, and Auxiliary Services, and Community Safety & Relations, in their implementation of bills and initiatives.
Advise and meet weekly with the Speaker of the Senate, Secretary of the Senate, and Parliamentarian of the Senate.
