Job Description

The stations are seeking a Manager of Production Operations who can play a lead role supporting multiple studios and staff in producing live newscasts from our production studios. The role holds a key relationship with the duopoly news teams who broadcast from 4am-11:30pm each day. 

Reporting to the Director of Technology, the ideal candidate will have news directing skills and will be at the confluence between management and program directing. This role will suit someone who is prepared to focus primarily on a management career which will combine admin, scheduling, relationships, mentoring and special events organization but also will need the skills required to take the controls of the production environment in the event of a unique or emergency situation. Strong team leadership in day-to-day engagement with the TV Directors team with a fundamental knowledge of on-screen look and design, lighting and camera techniques along with a deep technical understanding of production and broadcast technology.

The position will play a key role in continuity and transformation of the facility workflows and operational technology. This is a challenging role which would suit someone able to manage multiple tasks, projects and complex technical information while constantly retaining detail and best in class on-air focus in a high-pressure environment.

 Responsibilities

  • Singular contact for day-to-day production operations.
  • Interface daily with NBC and Telemundo news teams along with the growing digital team.
  • Work closely in mentoring Directors to cultivate new skills and continue to raise the bar for on-air standards, look and professional execution.
  • Lead and support team in use of all production technology, systems and in creating operational workflows.
  • Partner and liaise with all clients & units to ensure a flawless execution of all shows and contingencies.
  • Lead and participate in key initiatives, implementing unified operational workflows, strategic planning and growth across all clients and business units.
  • Partner with the Director of Media Operations and Director of Technology to capture emerging technologies and integrate its use in the operation. 
  • Create key relationships with external vendors and clients to maintain the production calendar.
  • Serve all departments with a ‘how can we help accomplish this’ type of mentality as well as meeting regularly with the various stakeholder teams that the role supports
  • Administrative duties including hiring new team members, managing schedules and signing off on time-sheets.
  • Build relationships with the group, help them to grow individually and provide them opportunities to show what they are really capable of.
  • Responsible for Performance Feedback as well as accountability and enforcement of established responsibilities and expectations.
  • Big picture planning as we continually look for ways to improve our processes as applied to all aspects of our news operation as well as finding the best way to implement those changes.
  • Coordinate and prepare for special events or other challenges for multiple clients
  • Coordinate efforts with the Directors of Media Operations and Technology to remove obstacles to achieving on-air results 

Qualifications

  • Understanding of HD broadcast signals, broadcast video playback systems, media archival systems
  • Familiar with NRCS’s in a production domain i.e. Dalet, Ross environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with people while under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Technical aptitude and with a desire to deploy new innovative solutions to operational needs
  • Process and detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working in a broadcast and/or digital newsroom environment
  • Ability to quickly understand and size up opportunity and/or problems and respond with creative ideas and solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments concurrently in a high pressure, breaking news environment
  • Make priority decisions under deadlines
  • Lead, manage and support a varied and diverse team
  • A pioneering spirit with a desire to learn emerging technologies and invent the future
  • Believes that teams are smarter and more dynamic together 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Information Technology, Media Management, Broadcast Engineering
