About This Role
The Sales Application Engineer is a critical partner to our sales team, providing technical expertise, strategic support, and solution structuring for complex Applied HVAC equipment selections, proposals, quoting, and submittals. This role focuses on complex, large-scale, non-standard projects, ensuring that sales teams can confidently present the most competitive, technically sound, and cost-effective solutions to customers.
By translating customer needs into optimized equipment configurations, the Sales Application Engineer ensures our solutions meet performance requirements, budget constraints, and regulatory standards. This role is designed to empower sellers, serving as the go-to expert in navigating technical challenges, refining proposals, and strengthening the overall value proposition.
This role requires deeper technical understanding, strategic insights, understanding competitor capabilities, and creative problem-solving. Through collaboration with sales, engineering, and operations, the Sales Application Engineer plays a key role in driving project success, enhancing customer confidence, and increasing win rates. This role may sit anywhere in the US; preference given to candidates that sit in Midwest.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, validate, and optimize Applied HVAC equipment selection, including size, configuration, voltage, and options based on project specifications.
Ensure all quoting, sizing, and equipment specifications align with customer requirements and standards (local, energy, etc.).
Identify opportunities for cost savings and technical improvements in system selection to improve our competitive position.
Stay informed on industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging HVAC technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
Develop and refine detailed technical proposals and quotes for complex projects.
Ensure pricing accuracy, margin optimization, and compliance with discounting strategies.
Support sales teams in presenting technically sound, competitive solutions to customers.
Prepare, review, and approve final technical submittals, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry regulations.
Work with sales and project teams to identify scope gaps, potential risks, and value engineering opportunities.
Maintain accurate records of project costs, configurations, and customer approvals.
Provide technical guidance to sales and support teams on complex projects and high-value opportunities.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
2+ Years of Experience in HVAC Equipment selection, Application Engineering, or Project Management in an estimating or sales support role
Ability to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and commercial building design principles.
Experience with HVAC Custom Unit
Experience with selections, quoting, proposal development, and technical submittals for complex projects including Water Cooled Chillers.
Proficiency in HVAC design and selection software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SAP, Salesforce, or similar tools).
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Knowledge of utility rebate programs, energy efficiency regulations, and sustainability incentives.
Experience in vendor negotiations for HVAC equipment pricing and procurement.
Familiarity with competitive bid and RFP processes in commercial HVAC sales.
