POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for secretarial duties in Interventional Radiology Services under the general supervision of the Manager of Radiology Services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High School Graduate

Experience:

  1. Prior secretarial experience in health care environment with medical terminology required.
  2. Previous experience with Microsoft Office.
  3. Previous cardiology experience preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Comfortable communicating with a variety of persons, including patients and their families, physicians, co-workers, and physicians' office personnel.
  2. Ability to plan and arrange own work and proceed alone, referring unusual situations to the charge nurse or Administrator.
  3. Good command of English language and proficiency in spelling and keyboarding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs secretarial duties to facilitate the flow of written and verbal communications among patients and their families, nursing staff, medical staff, Medical Center departments and certain outside agencies.
    1. Acts as resource for OR Scheduling Secretary, Central Scheduling, and physician offices.
    2. Coordinates testing schedules for patients through scheduling systems.
    3. Obtains reports for Mount Nittany Medical Center from other testing facilities.
    4. Notifies physicians of abnormal results as directed by medical and professional nursing staff via phone, FAX, etc.
    5. Collates information obtained (i.e., test results, H&P, consent, physician orders) for patient medical record. 
    6. Prepares patient record with required documentation forms to facilitate patient admission on the day of procedure. 
    7. Answers telephone and greets patients in a courteous manner. Takes and relays messages.
    8. Monitors department inventories and orders supplies.
    9. Builds and maintain procedure charge dictionary.  Verifies daily procedure charges are correct.
    10. Prepares films or CDs that are requested by other facilities for mail or pick up and logs them appropriately.
    11. Transcribes physician’s orders accurately.
    12. Collaborates with nurse in charge of physician’s orders which require immediate attention, such as stat orders or lab reports.
    13. Assists with patient transfer process as necessary.
    14. Coordinates essential functions between cardiology departments (Cath Lab, EP Lab, Echo Cardiology, and Cardiac Rehab) and respiratory departments on as an add needed basis.
    15. Works with various provider offices to ensure that data is accurate.
