Software Development Engineer - Machining Simulation Focus

Third Wave Systems, a leading provider of CAE software for machining solutions, is seeking an enthusiastic addition to the development team. This position holds the primary responsibility of designing, developing, and maintaining features in our Production Module CNC toolpath optimization software. This position will collaborate with Software Development, Applications Engineers, Product Management, and Product Quality teams to translate customer and government requirements into internal requirements and software products.
Primary responsibilities:
- Work closely with Product Management, Engineering Applications, Support, and Product Quality to understand market needs and gaps between those needs and the existing TWS software solutions.
- Derive, communicate, and acquire feedback on possible software solutions.
- Implement software solutions within an agile environment following a disciplined software development process.
- Create documentation on design, unit tests, bug fixes, and user stories.
- Ensure proactive communication with the Product Quality Team at various stages of the development and testing loop to improve the efficiency of testing and the quality of the software.
- Transition technologies developed in R&D to the commercial product.
- Maintain and improve the existing commercial software product in quality, robustness, accuracy and efficiency.
- Actively identify, investigate and recommend new methods and opportunities for software improvement.
- Actively participate in all agile meetings related to Development.
- Provide internal product support to assist the Application & Support Engineering Team deliver exceptional support.
- Assist other developers with design decisions, problem solving, and code reviews.
Requirements
- Must be able to demonstrate and exemplify Third Wave Systems Core Values: Driven, Takes Pride, Solutions Oriented, Critical Thinker and Collaborative
- Master's or bachelor's in computer science, software engineering, mechanical engineering or related field of study.
- Proficient in Modern C++.
- Understanding of OOP, STL, Algorithms and Data Structures.
- Experience with Windows Integration.
- Experience integrating with third party libraries.
Not required but nice to have:
- Knowledge on MFC architecture, parallel programming using Open MP/CUDA/OpenACC/Intel TBB.
- Familiarity with OpenGL and data visualization.
- Experience with test driven development using unit testing framework like GoogleTest.
- UI/UX experience with windows desktop applications.
- Experience with computational geometric modeling.
- Knowledge of machining processes or metal cutting processes.
- Coursework or industrial experience with CAE tools (e.g., ABAQUS) and CAD/CAM tools (e.g., CATIA, PRO-Engineer)
