About the role

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a nonpartisan research and policy institute that advances federal and state policies to help build a nation where everyone — regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ZIP code, immigration status, or disability status — has the resources they need to thrive and share in the nation’s prosperity.

CBPP combines rigorous research and analysis, strategic communications, and effective advocacy to shape debates, affect policy, and inform effective implementation both nationally and in states. It works closely with a broad set of national, state, and community organizations to design and advance policies that promote economic justice; improve health; broaden opportunity in areas like housing, health care, employment, and education; and lower structural barriers for people of color and others in communities that continue to face systemic barriers to opportunity. CBPP promotes policies that will build a more equitable nation and fair tax policies that can support these gains over the long term. CBPP also shows the harmful impacts of policies and proposals that would deepen poverty, widen disparities, and worsen health outcomes.

To advance these goals in the states, CBPP co-founded and continues to coordinate and convene the State Priorities Partnership. The State Priorities Partnership is the nation’s leading network of state policy organizations working to advance racial, social, and economic equity to build broad prosperity and thriving state economies. CBPP’s state team of almost 40 staff works directly with Partnership member organizations, the Steering Committee of Partnership directors, and the Partnership’s National Funding Collaborative to implement a shared vision for the network — from cultivating collaboration across state lines to distributing millions of grant dollars.

The Manager of Network Philanthropic Engagement works as part of a small team of staff to develop a holistic understanding of the funding landscape for the State Fiscal Policy team and State Priorities Partnership network. Working alongside the Director of Network Philanthropic Engagement, they assist in the creation and execution of a coordinated strategy for fundraising and funder stewardship for CBPP’s support of the network, as well as advising on state-specific fundraising approaches for Partnership groups.

The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented fundraiser with solid project management and communications skills, with an interest in supporting other fundraisers through technical assistance and peer learning, and deepening funding relationships that can drive equitable and antiracist policy change.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, collect, synthesize, and analyze financial and program data about the State Priorities Partnership for use in a variety of reports, presentations, and strategic operational documents to build a strong case of support for new and renewed philanthropic investment.
  • Help design and implement the foundation fundraising strategy for the State Fiscal Policy Division and the State Priorities Partnership, including but not limited to assisting with funder communications, organizing funder convenings, and bringing a funder-focused approach to the overall work of the team.
  • Create and manage a robust calendar for funder engagement, including scheduling and planning regular convenings of funders, and working with other key staff, including CBPP’s development team, to ensure implementation and stakeholder management.
  • Serve as a resource for the Network Philanthropic Engagement team and other teams across CBPP to track and map the activities and impact of State Priorities Partnership groups and the Network as a whole, for purposes of both financial and non-financial resource development.
  • Provide a broad range of technical assistance to staff in the State Priorities Partnership, including, but not limited to: individual giving, institutional fundraising, event planning, financial goal setting, and board engagement. Technical assistance includes one-on-one coaching, Network-wide resource development, event programming, etc.
  • Co-staff, with the Program Assistant, the State Priorities Partnership development advisory committee (a small committee of fundraising professionals across the Network). The Manager will co-facilitate bi-monthly meetings, help set and execute goals for the Committee and Network staff, and lead on relevant technical assistance projects.
  • Contribute to the programmatic planning for SFP’s major convenings: Summer Leadership Institute, New Staff Training, and the IMPACT conference.
  • Provide operational support to the Director of Network Philanthropic Engagement and serve as a resource to other teams to strengthen funder relationships and meet grant require
