The Senior Principal Engineer, Project Engineer will be responsible for engineering and management activities associated with the design, development, qualification, and initial low-rate production of a new Military APU product within the Fighter & Mobility Auxiliary Power Unit and Turbojet business group. This position requires expert, or mastery level knowledge of gas turbine engine operation and development typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
What You Will Do :
- Provide leadership and guidance as the leader or the respective program integrated product team (IPT) in support of new product development.
- Manage the assigned program activity in alignment with the respective PW Management system manual processes as well as all other applicable project management level 2 and level 3 procedures (Specifically section 1.5 Integrated Program Deployment and section 4.0 Develop and Design product).
- Ensuring all program activity is appropriately planned, baselined, and tracked via Earn Value Management Systems (EVMS). Ensure all IPTs are tracking to their plans.
- Manage overall program milestones and technical risks though tracking IPT’s to commitments and providing overall program execution communication.
- Ensure all technical scope changes are properly coordinated with the Program Office and full alignment is gained prior to execution of unplanned work.
- Communicate project status, issues, etc. effectively both internally and externally (verbally and written) to program team, management, and customers.
- Meet program schedules and budgets.
- Coordinate and Support required Design Reviews.
- Support development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
- Create cost estimates and rationale for all Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) effort necessary to perform the program.
- Compile all assumptions, dependencies, risks, and opportunities related to NRE cost estimates.
- Determine task descriptions based on the scope of work to be performed and the deliverables.
- Generate resource loaded schedules in MS-Project.
- Review project and budget status, manage schedules, and prepare reports.
- Monitor and assess project issues; develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives.
- Direct the work of employees assigned to the Integrated Project Teams.
- Identify and react to project problems and recommend solutions, such as reallocating resources.
- Record and document delays, changes in scope, and any other incidents that impact the scope of work or schedule to ensure smooth project operations.
- Conduct meetings and present progress relating to engineering and financial aspects of the project.
- Travel up to 10% - 25% for testing and quarterly meetings as necessary.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s Degree from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)
- 10+ years of Engineering experience, or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S.
