Status: Exempt, Full Time (TEMP)

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Financial Services Department of ADLA is seeking an Accounting Manager to join the team to support the accounting for the Administrative Office within Controllership. It is an exciting time to join the Financial Services Department with our continued efforts in strengthening the internal control framework in a fun and collaborative work environment. This position provides a great opportunity for professional growth and to make an impact on the organization. The Accounting Manager position will be responsible for maintaining a timely and accurate month-end close process, reporting and implementing strong internal controls in accordance with Best Practices in the Administrative Office. The position will also be responsible for full-cycle accounting and reporting and will work directly with cross-functional departments within ADLA. This position will also be responsible for supervising one direct report.   

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 

Transactional

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations and full-cycle accounting (Assets, Liabilities, Revenue, Expenses)
  • Crosstrain with other Financial Services team members to provide back up for key responsibilities
  • Perform ad-hoc assignments, as necessary

 

Compliance and Reporting

  • Assist with third party independent audits and reviews
  • Ensure compliance Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), non-profit accounting standards, and relevant regulations
  • Maintain company policies and procedures and desktop procedure documentation
  • Identify improvements to increase efficiency by automating procedures, where possible
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure reporting accuracy
  • Research and document technical accounting issues, as needed

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and supervise one accounting staff
  • Provide budgeting and forecasting support, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • At least four years of related work experience
  • At least three years of supervisory experience
  • Proven track record of managing general ledgers and subledgers
  • Desire to learn and expand skill set
  • Maintains confidential information with discretion
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Preferred Certifications and Experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively pursuing licensure
  • Big four, large regional experience
  • Knowledge of nonprofit, funds, or grant accounting

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Knowledge of

  • Unique needs of mission-driven organizations
  • Mid-tier or large ERP system, preferably Navigator
  • Integrating generative artificial intelligence into financial services department workflows
  • Reconciliation software or similar systems
