As a member of the Financial Management team and under the direction of the Associate Director of Budget & Accounting, this position provides central accounting support for the Office of Student Life.

This office oversees the year-round budget process and maintenance of the Student Life budget system. This role completes user acceptance testing in conjunction with our Technology Services partners and makes recommendations for improvements and implement changes. Assists with transferring validated information to the Adaptive university budget system for various planning and forecast cycles and implements mechanisms to verify accuracy. Completes monthly accounting processes which include sales tax reporting, reviewing and identifying general ledger funding errors, reconciling external rental agreement payments, entering routine and ad-hoc journal entries and funds transfers. Aids in maintaining updated records for rates charged across SL operations and updates internal rates website. Supports year end processes by submitting fiscal year close accounting transactions. This role will also assist with overseeing the SL deposit center and process checks and cash in accordance with university policies and procedures.

To support our largest revenue operation, Housing & Residence Education (HRE), this role completes monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts related to the Housing StarRez system including revenue, deferred revenue, cash clearing, liabilities, and accounts receivable; performs monthly credit card deposit reallocation and monthly internal revenue reallocation for graduate housing, undergraduate housing, summer housing and orientation housing. This role will work with HRE and Financial Management leadership to calculate housing revenue budget and forecasts.

Assists with the creation and delivery of educational content for onboarding new fiscal staff across the division. Maintains accounting records according to the university records retention schedule. Represents Student Life and/or department on various department, division and/or university committees and workgroups.

Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.




Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • At least 4 years relevant experience required
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and applications
  • Working knowledge of Excel or similar spreadsheet tools, PowerPoint, Word, Office365.
  • Problem-solving skills to resolve financial and operational issues.
  • Strong attention to detail in executing tasks and reviewing reports.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with various stakeholders.
     

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters in Business Administration.
  • 4-8 years relevant experience
  • Prior work experience in Higher Education and/or Student Affairs
  • Working knowledge of Workday
  • Working knowledge of Tableau Server reporting
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures preferred.
