About the role

SUMMARY

The General Superintendent is a business partner with overall responsibility for success and profitability of the construction operations of the Company.  He/she plans for and directs all field related functions to include logistics, safety, reporting and mentorship to include Operations Management, Business Development, Marketing, Pre-Construction, Estimating, Scheduling, Field Operations, and Project Management. Responsible for administering corporate organizational procedures and policies by performing the primary duties outlined below, either personally or through subordinate managers. Directs activities of workers in the construction of buildings, to include airports, stadiums, hotels, infrastructure or other construction projects. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other assigned duties:

  • Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction. 
  • Assembles members of organization (supervisory, clerical, engineering, and other workers) at start of project. 
  • Orders tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules. 
  • Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays. 
  • Confers with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within workforce. 
  • Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods. 
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules. 
  • Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports. 
  • Directs workers concerned with major maintenance or reconditioning projects for existing installations. 
  • Performs work in a safe manner and actively encourages others to comply with safety rules and regulations. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction.
  • 15+ years of related Civil experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience with Joint Venture delivery method is a plus.
  • Experience working in the North Texas Market 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Production experience with Microsoft Suite, Primavera P6, CMiC and Procore. OSHA 30 certified.
