Overview
This is a position for a Registered Nurse, RN, with the Department of Otolaryngology. The RN will be responsible for serving as a liaison between the providers and patients to communicate advanced health information. Additionally, this position provides patient education on managing and understanding medical conditions. The RN will also provide assistance for in office procedures and monitoring of patient’s progress within their scope of practice to ensure quality care.
Responsibilities
Performs follow-up patient care i.e.: postoperative check-ins, labs, medical imaging requests, cardiac or medical clearance, medication authorizations, prior authorizations, allergy testing or treatments, scheduling of patient appointments, completion of FMLA and other disability paperwork, and surgical clearances
Provides orientation to clinical staff i.e.: policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
Serves as a liaison between the providers and patients to communicate advanced health information, patient education, in office procedure and monitoring assistance, and assists with onboarding of new staff members.
Coordinates services with specialists i.e.: radiation oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, nutritional counseling, or social services consultation, facilitates cochlear implant evaluations and checklists, triages patient phone calls with appropriate follow-up per department protocol, and completes other duties as assigned.
Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains used instrumentation per department protocol. Documents interventions in the electronic medical record and reviews patient charts for completeness. Chart preparations- i.e.: reviews the last clinic note, gathers test results and other pertinent data relevant to visit, loads images, documents recent surgeries in EHR, scanning, filing, recording of patient information, surgical packet preparation i.e.: pre/postoperative care instructions and education per department protocol.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Successful completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program, ADN accepted, BSN preferred.
RN License in the state of Virginia
A minimum of one year of full-time equivalent work experience in Otolaryngology.
