Responsibilities
The Police Projects and Technology Specialist provides technical support and assistance to police department employees, while serving as a primary liaison with the City of Eden Prairie IT Division. The position will entail duties to include, but not limited to, project coordination, implementation and maintenance of a variety of police technologies, equipment and systems. The position requires the ability to research, and problem solve specialized law enforcement technology. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Liaison with IT Division to maintain and support Police Department technology including computers, printers, routers, GPS systems and cameras, and provide support for and management of special projects.
- Assist with maintenance and upgrades for public safety applications as requested by the IT Division, providing expertise on system integration, data integrity, and performance.
- Assist with negotiation of technology contracts.
- Assist with audits in the Police Department related to technology and products.
- Provides technical support for Police Department employees.
- Participates in or leads various public safety technology projects.
- Provides court testimony relating to technology.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Requirements
- Technical or associate’s degree in related field required, along with 3 years’ experience in technology or a closely related field.
- General knowledge of workstation maintenance, iOS and Android mobile devices required.
- Previous experience with troubleshooting and setting up personal and mobile computers including the installation, set-up and repair of computer hardware and other related equipment preferred.
- General knowledge of law enforcement technology and operations preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
- This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 50 lbs. with assistance and the ability to bend/stand/kneel/reach. Most work is performed in a normal office environment. Work interruptions are frequent.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position include professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check (must have a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record), work history verification, and education verification.
