Junior Software Engineer
Diverse Computing, Inc. has a two semester internship opening for a highly-motivated Junior Software Engineer. This is a great opportunity to work alongside our software developers. At Diverse Computing, we believe in helping young talent gain real-world experience during their internships, so this should be viewed more as a part-time job (15-25 hrs per week). This means that the work you’ll do here will directly benefit our products and clients. If you’re a hard worker who is ready for a challenge, this could be for you!

As a DCI Junior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Write well-designed, testable, efficient code based on specifications
  • Troubleshoot, debug, enhance and maintain existing software in various languages including Java, JavaScript, C#, SQL Server, CSS, and HTML
  • Utilize popular frameworks such as Spring MVC, Bootstrap, Apache Camel, and React
  • Write maintainable software that can be understood by software developers of varying skill levels
  • Endeavor to write applications which are easily configurable by maintenance and operations personnel
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting
  • Research issues and solutions
  • Review code and articulate any improvements necessary
  • Comprehensively test programming solutions
  • Summarize and document complex technical issues in a way that non-subject matter experts can understand
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, techniques and share them with colleagues
  • Utilize version control best practices and consider the rest of your team when pushing to version control
  • Make use of external resources such as Project Management and Business Analyst to ensure project success

Qualifications

This job might be for you, if you:

  • Are an IT, CS, or Computer Engineering, or a related field major at one of the universities or community colleges located in Tallahassee, FL
  • Have a solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming
  • Have some experience with programming beyond classwork (preferred)
  • Have had exposure to (preferably some experience with) Java or C#, JavaScript, CSS, HTML
  • Have some working knowledge of: SQL Server (or another SQL DBMS), React, Spring, jQuery, Apache Camel (preferred - we understand that you are a student)
  • Are a confident and professional communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Are available to start soon
  • Currently reside or physically attending University in Florida
  • Can confidently pass rigorous fingerprint-based state and federal background screenings, as required by the nationwide agencies we work with (mandatory)
  • Do not require sponsorship to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this position
