The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities


As a Part-Time Student Data Engineer for John Deere World Headquarters in Ames, IA, you will...

 

  • Gain expertise in big data, cloud technologies, and front-end development, using these skills to build scalable Data & Analytics solutions. In addition, you will:
  • Develop and enhance high-volume data processes and new functionality/code.
  • Support and monitor daily ETL processes.
  • Contribute to discussions on engineering direction, technical debt evaluation, and prioritization.
  • Improve data quality in large-scale analytic environments.
  • Resolve complex technical issues in Big Data and analytics technologies.
  • Address defects and engineering challenges.
  • Build strategic relationships with source data, Data & Analytics, and business analytics teams.
  • Explore and develop AI solutions for our products.
  • Embrace an API-first mindset.

 

This position is not available to students on immigration visas.

What Skills You Need

 

  • Pursuing a degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Must be a full-time student at a local accredited college/university.
  • Expected graduation date of December 2026 or later.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.
  • Available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and 35-40 hours per week in the summer.
  • Must be able to commute to Ames, Iowa, as needed year-round (relocation assistance not provided).
  • Familiarity with Data Engineering, ETL, Data Warehousing, or data movement applications.
  • Experience in designing, developing, testing, and integrating complex software using React, Node, Python, or SQL.
  • Exposure to an Agile/Scrum team environment.

What Makes You Stand Out

 

  • Experience with Data Warehouse and Data Lake technologies, including Big Data tools like Databricks, Spark, Microfrontend, APIs, React, and AWS S3.
  • Familiarity with cloud development on platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of User Experience principles.
  • Proficiency in BI reporting tools like Tableau or Power BI.
