The Boeing CompanyBoeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate or Mid-Level Electrical Engineer - Hardware Design and Analysis (Level 2 or 3) to join our exclusive team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We are looking for a highly skilled individual who has a background in electronic circuitry and schematic designs. This position will support the hardware, firmware, and software development of electro-optical systems. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to advancements in technology using cutting-edge equipment at a historically significant site.
This position supports the R&D mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities. The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development, optimization, and maintenance of embedded electro-mechanical pointing and tracking control systems.
The ideal candidate would assist with the documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for hardware systems. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, quantum systems to achieve research objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
Ability to use and troubleshoot electronic circuitry with basic test devices (i.e. Volt meter, DMM, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, clock generators, function generators).
Ability to gather requirements, develop designs, create schematics & layouts, implement, test, deploy and maintain a board/system in cooperation with the customer.
Create documentation and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, hardware design, digital design, and system design.
Manage multiple projects and priorities through their full lifecycle.
Calculate power estimates of modules to support thermal analysis and pedestal design.
Provide electrical constraint information for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout and support.
Support prototype builds, ensuring adherence to released documentation or any markups.
Troubleshoot root causes of existing system failures using basic test devices during environmental and Electromagnetic Capability (EMC) validation.
Manage Bill of Materials (BOMs) for cost estimates and perform BOM walk cost reviews for engineering changes with managers.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
2+ years of experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design
2+ years of experience with multi-meters and oscilloscope
2+ years of experience with Xilinx design using VHDL
Must be willing to work variable shifts; including day, evening, night, and weekend
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Communications Engineering, or Computer Engineering
Experience using schematic designs and PCB layouts, and fabrication packages using integrated computer aided design (CAD) tools (i.e. OrCAD, PADS)
Proficiency in Mentor Graphics “PADS DxDesigner” (for schematics) and “PADS Layout”
Strong knowledge of electronics and circuit design
Experience in creating and maintaining documentation, including specifications, test plans, BOMs, ECOs, and manuals
Ability to troubleshoot and verify electronic circuits using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, function generators and multimeters
Desired knowledge of firmware design, preferably using VHDL and Mentor Graphics “ModelSim” for code simulation
