About the Role:
The Manager, Research Accounting will oversee research accounting, financial reporting, and decision support functions that uphold the vision and goals of the Research Enterprise. This role will maintain records and ensure compliance to all funding agencies and Brock policies. The Manager is responsible for financial reporting on research projects, audits and reconciliation of research accounts and coordination of research accounting with Financial Services.
The Manager, Research Accounting will:
- Maintain records and procedures to ensure compliance with funding agency requirements and address incidents of non-compliance;
- Prepare and submit financial reports to funding agencies within mandated deadlines;
- Oversee the opening, freezing and closing of all research accounts in accordance with the eligibility policies of the University and funding agencies;
- Assist faculty in arranging the administration of their research activities and act as a liaison between faculty and Brock’s administrative departments;
- Update leadership and other stakeholders of any irregularities or concerns about research spending or other research financial matters;
- Provide leadership and foster a culture of client centred service;
- Consult with faculty and team members on areas of service improvement to foster positive outcomes;
- Build collegial relationships with the research community and assist researchers in utilizing their funding effectively;
- Demonstrate leadership in socializing new policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices;
- Advise on the eligibility of proposed expenses and best practices for budget development;
- Connect clients with relevant areas of expertise in other units;
- Work closely with Research Enterprise colleagues in supporting the efforts of faculty in growing their research portfolios;
- Collaborate on, develop, and support the implementation of the strategic operating plan;
- Advise on budget preparation and expenditure analysis;
- Lead, monitor and report on projects in support of current and long-range plans;
- Provide leadership and motivation to staff to develop a client centered culture.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree with courses specific to accounting, tax, and financial reporting;
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA);
- Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring staff;
- Strong understanding of the financial management, accounting, compliance and reporting requirements of major funding agencies;
- Expertise in budgeting, accounting, planning, financial reporting and financial performance management;
- Proven leadership and relationship-building skills;
- Ability to integrate new information and skills to enhance performance;
- Demonstrated project management skills;
- Strong consultative and advisory skills with the ability to tactfully and diplomatically affirm decisions;
- Demonstrated experience of implementing financial policies, guidelines, and controls.

- Experience with Workday
Salary and Total Rewards:
- Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($68,600.00 - $117,600.00);
- Target Hiring Range: $68,600.00 - $90,000
- This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
