Description

 

The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced Physician to perform a critical role in assisting the Physician Specialist in providing comprehensive medical support to patients. The primary responsibilities of this role will involve leading, supervising, and directing the medical staff and clinic staff. The selected candidate will ensure continuous medical coverage by participating in the medical staff schedules. Collaborating with psychiatrists and other clinicians, the Physician will provide continuous and holistic patient care, including diagnosis, management, and appropriate referrals.

Our candidate will have a multifaceted role that encompasses leadership, supervision, patient care, collaboration, emergency services, quality assurance, and staff development. By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Physician will contribute to the provision of high-quality medical support services and the overall well-being of patients and staff.
 

Please note: This is a full-time 40/week position.  Monday-Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to the medical staff and clinic staff.
  • Ensure continuous medical coverage by participating in medical staff schedules.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists and other clinicians to deliver comprehensive and continuous patient care, including diagnosis, management, and appropriate referrals.
  • Oversee and provide emergency medical services to employees.
  • Review and revise policies, develop practice guidelines, and implement disease management protocols to improve clinical care.
  • Develop and monitor Quality Assurance (QA) indicators to meet regulatory requirements and participate in the hospital-wide performance improvement process.
  •  Conduct admission history and physical examinations for patients.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, EKGs, and X-rays as needed.
  • Perform routine evaluations of patients and address difficult cases through consultation; perform minor surgical procedures when required.
  • Respond to emergency medical calls and establish doctor-to-doctor contacts with external hospitals.
  • Contribute to staff development activities, including ongoing educational initiatives.


Required Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine.
  • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine based on experience and training.
  •  Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations throughout the campus.
  •  Capacity to refer patients/staff to appropriate facilities as needed.
  • Experience working effectively with patients with chronic illness.                         


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices and person-centered approaches.
  •  Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a medical setting.
  •  Knowledge and understanding of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement processes.
  • Strong clinical skills with the ability to provide comprehensive patient care and make informed medical decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate with patients and staff.
  •  Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
