Purpose

The Senior Academic Advisor will participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising and student success functions for students in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work Undergraduate Programs, demonstrating an advanced level of expertise and skill. Responsible for understanding and interpreting the requirements and academic options in the specific area and in other campus departments to facilitate the student's pursuit of social work.

Responsibilities

  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Oversee BSW program advising and student success activities. Assist senior program coordinator in data collection and reporting, monitoring student success initiative progress, and recruitment. Track student progress through admission to graduation. Conduct Steve Hicks School of Social Work orientations in coordination with university new student services for first-year college students and external transfer students and families. Facilitate information sessions and advising for internal transfer students.
  • STUDENT RECRUITMENT AND COMMUNICATION: Guide the operation of internal and external recruitment efforts with efficiency: receive prospective students (internal/external transfer and visiting first-year students) for pre-advising, hold internal transfer and admissions information sessions, and field general questions regarding social work minors. Oversee a proactive online presence for student communication. Manage the creation, distribution, and updating of advising materials. Organize extracurricular activities that cater to the interests and needs of students.
  • SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM: Direct and take the lead in all Social Work Education Enhancement Program (SWEEP) activities.

Work closely with other academic advisors in order to provide timely information on course/degree options and university policies. Make appropriate referrals.
