Position Summary

The Manufacturing Systems Integration and Automation Project Manager is responsible for the realization of strategic goals related to the integration and automation of manufacturing control, monitoring, and data systems. The Manufacturing Systems Integration and Automation Project Manager must work effectively with all levels of the organization from operators to corporate management to accomplish strategic goals.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works side-by-side with the ERP Implementation team to develop and execute project work supporting the successful integration/linkage of ERP/MES (JD Edwards/Greycon) with machine-specific control systems such as PLC/HMI/Industrial PC.
  • Creates detailed schematics/documentation of existing machine control schemes - including process maps, inputs/output diagrams, sequence logic trees, etc.
  • Creates plans for project implementation and leads cross-functional teams to pilot automation and subsequently cascades across the network.
  • Develops applicable training materials and provide training on system improvements.
  • Leads the development and optimization of SCADA (Aveva) systems across the manufacturing network.
  • Identifies opportunities for additional Critical to Process, Critical to Quality, and Critical to Reliability data collection and creates plans for implementation, leads teams at each site to execute, and cascades across the network.
  • Develops standard alarming/notification practices and troubleshooting trends.
  • Investigates, trials, and implement automated statistical control systems to reduce losses/waste and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Champions research and trial of AI technologies for machine data set analysis, predictive analytics, and root cause analysis.
  • Prepare RFQ packages and solicit quotes for responsible projects as required.
  • Deliver project proposals and periodic updates to the management team and key stakeholders.
  • Manage installation, startup, validation, and EHS sign-off of equipment controls upgrades, equipment wiring installations, HMI / process improvements, and other facility upgrades.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skill Needed:

  • Education: B.S. Controls Engineering, B.S. Electrical Engineering, B.S. Industrial & Systems Engineering, B.S. Industrial Engineer.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience implementing, improving, or integrating manufacturing systems
  • Experience with the following systems/software is desired:
    • SCADA implementation/optimization (ideally Aveva/Wonderware),
    • ERP/MES to equipment PLC/SCADA integration (ideally JD Edwards/Greycon),
    • Experience utilizing HMI development platforms: Wonderware InTouch, Ignition, Siemens Simatic, Allen Bradley PanelView
    • Familiarity with/or willingness and aptitude to learn common software programming languages on a project-by-project basis (such as C#, Python, JavaScript, Java, PHP, SQL)

    • Excellent Technical Communicator: The individual must be able to translate complex systems for effective communication with all levels of the organization.
    • Team Oriented: Must be able to effectively work with/in a team to meet project deliverables on time and to expectations.
    • Tenacious: Perseveres with a project, no matter how challenging, exhibiting high motivation and a sense of urgency.
    • Professional: Always maintains the utmost professionalism, even in the face of unexpected challenges, delays, issues, or shifting priorities.
    • Data-oriented: able to perform various math functions, with emphasis on measurable impact of mathematical calculations.

  • Work and Travel Expectations:
    • 50-75% depending on projects and the location the employee is based. A significant amount of time will be spent in manufacturing facilities where hearing, eye, and foot protection are mandatory.
