Ensworth seeks a Red Gables Flex Teacher to serve as a versatile and mission-aligned educator who plays a vital role in maintaining continuity and excellence in teaching, learning, and daily school operations. This individual will be a key member of both the instructional and administrative support teams, stepping seamlessly into classrooms across lower school and middle school subject areas, while also providing responsive support to the broader Red Gables community.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled educator with a strong understanding of child development and classroom instruction who thrives in dynamic environments and can build strong relationships with students, faculty, and families. The flex teacher reports to the Lower and Middle School Heads with duties assigned by the administrative assistant. In addition to serving as a highly capable substitute teacher, this person will also be called upon to assist with key school events, coverage needs, and operational logistics. Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty, Staff, or Administrator
Provide high-quality classroom instruction in the absence of homeroom, specialty, or support teachers, ensuring learning continues smoothly and with fidelity to lesson plans and grade-level standards.
Collaborate with teaching teams and instructional leaders to stay informed about classroom routines, curriculum expectations, and student needs across all grade levels.
Serve as an active member of the Red Gable’s administrative support team, assisting with duties such as arrival and dismissal, supervision, event setup, clerical support, and logistical coordination.
Engage in the life of the school by supporting or attending activities and events beyond the academic school day.
Build strong and trusting relationships with students, faculty, and families, contributing to a warm, inclusive, and mission-driven school culture.
Maintain clear, respectful communication and demonstrate adaptability and professionalism in all aspects of school life.
Participate in professional learning, faculty meetings and inservice days, staying aligned with Ensworth’s commitment to continuous growth and best practices.
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience preferred.
Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co-workers, parents, alumnae, volunteers, and the public.
A positive team mentality with excellent problem-solving, multi-tasking, and organization skills.
Professional and efficient in their ability to work independently while also able to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with differing deadlines.
A high degree of accuracy and superior attention to detail.
Must successfully complete background screening and verification.
Continued Education Programs (as required by position) – Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you, the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods, practices and any new knowledge in their respective field. Dependent on the program, such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Regularly works in standard and classroom conditions.
Works at a computer screen for extended periods of time; ability to observe students from various distances.
Frequently required to move around the classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time; occasionally moves around campus.
Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
Occasionally works in a stressful performance environment, effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
Ensworth requires employees to be physically present on campus, with limited exceptions that are at the sole discretion
