Position Description

The mission of the Anoka County Finance department is to enrich our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. We currently have an opening for a Payroll Supervisor, responsible for supervising, overseeing, and coordinating the payroll functions for Anoka County. This includes preparing, processing, and maintaining County payroll, records, and reports. The Payroll Supervisor will also foster collaborative partnerships across departments, providing support, information, and assistance to all County staff regarding payroll-related matters.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid-eligible position. First interviews will take place the week of April 7th, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process, with second interviews the week of April 14th, 2025.

  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 36: $85,363.00 to $119,496.00 ($41.04 to $57.45 per hour)

Work Location

  • This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.
  • This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office after the successful completion of the probationary period.
  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Supervisor, Accountant.

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
  • Manage payroll operations ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, as well as applicable labor agreements.
  • Implement and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Process payroll data, including wages, benefits, deductions, garnishments, and taxes using Workday Payroll.
  • Collaborate closely with the Human Resources Department to ensure accuracy of payroll calculations.
  • Ensure the accurate maintenance and filing of payroll-related records, reports, and documentation.
  • Monitor payroll systems and processes, recommending improvements for efficiency and accuracy, particularly within Workday Payroll.
  • Test and validate semi-annual Workday software releases to ensure the accuracy of payroll calculations before the release date.  Provide guidance on optional features and if they should be implemented.
  • Serve as a resource for other departments, providing guidance on payroll matters while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
     

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
  • Previous leadership experience.
