Senior Product Manager, NYT Games Mobile

The New York Times is looking for a Senior Product Manager to support its growing and expanding Games business by ensuring the continued success of the NYT Games apps. You will guide the development of our mobile platforms on iOS and Android, be responsible for infrastructure improvements, develop mobile features, and bring more of our game experiences into the apps.

About the Role:

New York Times Games manages a portfolio of popular digital games, the iconic NYT Crossword and Spelling Bee, Connections, which has existed in print for over 77 years, and the internet’s latest obsession, Wordle. We have over one million paying subscribers to our world-class digital play experiences across web and mobile devices. Games are the fastest-growing business within the company and have a material impact on the financials of The New York Times – an impact that has only begun to be capitalized upon.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high degree of leadership in crafting a roadmap that improves the mobile experiences within the Games apps, balancing longer-term strategy with getting features out the door

  • Develop an understanding of levers that influence retentive behavior among our users, subscribers in particular

  • Operate within our “write once deliver everywhere” framework to ensure consistency across all NYT Games experiences

  • Shape and lead a product strategy that brings the long-term mobile Games vision to life, with clear direction and measurable goals

  • Expand the team's familiarity with app performance metrics; leverage intentionally designed experimentation to improve user experiences and capture value

  • You will report to the Product Director, Games Platform 

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive product management experience

  • 2+ years of progressive product management experience with mobile applications

  • 1+ year of exposure to a games environment or B2C product experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of iOS and Android app landscapes, focused on new trends, frameworks, and familiarity with native development principles

  • A sought-after collaborator who can work in a matrix environment with a variety of teams and experts, and experience with marketing and operational partners

  • Expertise in applying data and research to inform decision-making and a talent with data interpretation to uncover insights

  • Passion for puzzles, crosswords, and games. Deep interest in the industry, an eye for design and what makes a game fun, and a player first mentality

  • Love of the app ecosystem. Provide insight on industry trends and best practices for mobile apps and the broader mobile gaming industry

The annual base pay range for this role is between:$140,000—$160,000 USD
