Senior Manager - Metadata, Data Management 

Data is a key component of Expedia’s travel platform. To unlock the full potential of Expedia’s data we are building capabilities that will enable consistent and trusted data exchange across the enterprise. Enterprise Data Management and Governance organization is looking for a “Senior Manager – Metadata" to help manage the metadata team needs to bring this vision into reality.  

As a Senior Manager - Metadata, you will implement the metadata strategy vision and manage the newly created metadata, including staffing needs, hiring, onboarding, training and all other people management activities, define the success criteria and implement performance management activities, manage the capacity and tasks assigned to the various team members. You will help identify and work closely with the various brands data stewards along with our data governance group to ensure adherence to our data management policies and procedures. You will partner closely with the data quality, stewardship, and data governance teams to make sure that the data management strategy is effectively executed throughout the enterprise.  

You will have an opportunity to acquire vast knowledge of our data ecosystem by working together with the data stewards from diverse global teams, spanning technical functions, like data producers and consumers, to business functions, like marketing, finance, customer experience, and legal. 

What you'll do:

  • Understand and contribute to the metadata strategy vision and provide direction to execute on the proposed mission

  • Mastery of AWS cloud technologies from a data perspective

  • Experience building building data pipelines

  • Experience building data observability and data quality on data pipelines

  • Build and lead a lean metadata team, ensuring the capacity to tackle the various evolving data management and metadata activities

  • Execute staff performance reviews on quarterly basis and provide continuous feedback on professional development

  • Partner with the recruiting team to interview, shortlist and hire a diverse workforce when needed

  • Own business outcomes and be responsible for hitting associated targets by improving, re-imagining, challenging status quo, and leading change

  • Define and manage implementation roadmaps to bring consumer and producer data assets to the required standard

  • Work across Expedia Group (data producers and consumers) to evangelize and apply data management practices to ensure data is being used in the most effective way to drive value creation

  • Perform industry research to evolve strategy, policy, and process

Who you are: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in STEM

  • 12+ year experience in the data management and stewardship space  

  • Solid understanding of data platforms and data strategies for large scale organizations

  • Experience with master data management and data governance practices and processes at-scale

  • Expertise in eliciting and documenting features & requirements from both business and technical teams

  • Strong strategic perspective and ability to think through big-picture issues coupled with excellent execution to get things done in a fast-paced, environment 

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey sophisticated and abstract concepts to both technical and business teams

  • Outstanding influencing skills, including experience working within a large matrix organization

  • Exceptional collaboration, business insight, and customer advocacy skills

  • Solid understanding of Agile Project management concepts (preferable)

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $161,500 to $226,000. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500 , which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
