This Research Associate position is required in Professor Benoit Boulet’s Lab working on “Testbed development” project.

Job Summary:

Design and develop a generic experimental testbed integrating three electric motors with their drives, power supplies, breakers and connector blocks, within an electrical cabinet that will interconnect with a control computer running LabView and Matlab. The motor drive cabinet and interfaces will be used by graduate students to run electric vehicle transmission experiments on the testbed. Works in collaboration with the Research Supervisor to develop and conduct the research project "Testbed development", and is responsible for achieving the project’s objectives.

Duties:

More specifically, the tasks will be to:

• Assess the design of IALab’s existing motor drive cabinet, drive electronics and LabView setup;
• Improve this design as appropriate to develop and provide a bill of materials for a new cabinet and associated interfaces;
• Prepare a budget for approval, procure the material and build the new cabinet and associated interfaces;
• Integrate, program and test the functionality of the testbed composed of the new cabinet and associated interfaces. 
• Develops and conducts research projects and protocols, processes and procedures as delegated by the Research Supervisor.

Required Skills/Qualifications

P.Eng. with Ph.D. related to robotics with :

• At least 5 years of research experience
• Experience in mechanical design and system design 
• Experience in experimental robotics
• Experience with electric actuators for mechatronic systems 
• Experience in embedded systems integration
