Job Description
The Director of Data Engineering & Architecture is a leadership role responsible for design, development & implementation of all data engineering and analytics initiatives within the organization. This role plays a critical part in leveraging data to drive informed decision-making, enhance business operations, and achieve competitive advantages.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for data engineering and analytics aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with business leads and technology peers to identify opportunities where data can be used to create business value.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and other professionals.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within and across other technology teams.
- Outline the strategic and long term approach and execution for scaled and flexible architecture for end to end data management to drive Vuori’s analytics journey
- Thought leader in data architecture, ingest patterns, building high performing data warehouse and enabling self service for global user base
- Own the design, development, and maintenance of robust data architectures and infrastructure to support data collection, storage, processing, and retrieval.
- Ensure data security, compliance, and data quality standards are met.
- Define & build an enterprise data model & business semantic layer to enable reporting & self service across the organization
- Define a path and approach towards usage of advanced analytics in business use case enablement
- Partner with business leads in applying analytics towards use cases to test, learn and optimize business value
- Establish processes for data visualization and reporting to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Implement data governance policies and procedures to maintain data integrity, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Define data retention policies and data lifecycle management strategies.
- Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate data analytics tools, platforms, and technologies to support the team's objectives.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and analytics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that data-driven insights are integrated into decision-making processes.
- Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Establish KPIs and metrics to measure the impact and effectiveness of data engineering and analytics initiatives.
- Regularly review and analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering); a Master's degree is preferred.
- Proven experience (typically 10+ years) in data engineering, data analytics, and leadership roles, with a track record of successfully delivering data-driven solutions.
- Strong knowledge of data engineering concepts, data warehousing, data modeling, ETL processes, and cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Proficiency in data analytics, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools (e.g., Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, Microstrategy among other tools).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
- Very strong problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities.
- Knowledge of data privacy and compliance regulations.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets and resources and building high performing teams.
Additional Information
Pay Range: $187,000-$220,000/year
