The incumbent will drive a high-quality training program through effective planning, delivery, monitoring, and providing timely support across diverse training environments and audiences (ship and shore/hotel and marine). They will collaborate with leaders, stakeholders, shipboard management, and the Learning COE to implement and advance the organization's learning strategy. This role requires expertise in managing complex organizational-wide projects involving multiple and diverse stakeholders. The individual will oversee the fleet training operation, ensuring that shipboard L&D talent is equipped for effective delivery and growth. They will also manage strategic workforce planning (learning) projects in partnership with Crew Operations. As an experienced and skilled leader, they will effectively navigate various situations, including managing change and dealing with varying levels of ambiguity.
Essential Functions:
- Operational Training: Work closely with leadership teams and Training Governance groups to ensure that operational training (marine and hotel) aligns with business objectives. Develop plans and budgets, key performance indicators (KPIs), project timelines, and resources to guarantee efficient delivery. Provide guidance to the Marine and Hotel Training leaders to effectively manage stakeholders and achieve business goals as planned. Oversee resources, including sourcing and maintaining vendor relationships, partnerships, and offsite training facilities as needed. Ensure that operational training adheres to company and maritime requirements, including delivery schedules. Collect feedback and training metrics from each ship and present regular reports to senior leadership regarding the status of training programs, performance outcomes, gaps and areas needing improvement. Make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Fleet Learning & Development: Oversee fleet learning and development (L&D) operations, managing personnel and ensuring consistent training implementation. Develop and monitor processes to ensure consistency, improve training efficiency, including quality control systems like operational audits and standards. Ensure business continuity by establishing processes for rapid deployment of targeted training during crises or unforeseen events such as accidents, emergency drills, organizational changes or new regulations. Serve as subject matter expert for any fleet training matters and provide functional leadership and prompt guidance to shipboard leaders
- Strategic Training Projects: Advance strategic L&D initiatives by developing project charters in collaboration with Coe and L&D leadership. They will also manage strategic L&D projects in partnership with Crew Operations leadership, locally and overseas. Lead cross-functional teams by defining scope, gathering requirements, and tracking and communicating progress and results promptly. Manage stakeholder relationships effectively (both internal and external) and utilize project management tools and processes to maintain control of multiple projects, resources, and costs. Provide timely updates to stakeholders and leaders or escalate issues as necessary. Articulate business needs clearly and create dashboards, generate accurate reports, organize and host meetings, and deliver presentations to all levels of management. Ensure that project deliverables are met on time.
- Talent Management of Fleet L&D Personnel: Manage the talent acquisition process to attract, retain, and develop the shipboard L&D team. Ensure effective workforce plans and performance management practices in collaboration with Crew Operations and HR to maintain business continuity. Oversee new hire recruitment and ensure a thorough and consistent onboarding to ensure a smooth transition of L&D staff into their roles. Supervise the Fleet L&D Managers, ensuring that plans and processes are in place to achieve strategic business outcomes, such as establishing training KPIs and metrics for each vessel to promote performance and accountability. Provide guidance and feedback to HR Directors to help them effectively support the team onboard. Organize leadership and professional development opportunities for L&D managers, ensuring they have the required skills and knowledge and that individual development plans are in place. Establish career pathways for the L&D team and processes to ensure a fair and transparent promotion process. Manage the performance of the fleet L&D team, including collaborating with HR on employee actions, such as disciplinary measures and separations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field. MBA or Master’s degree a plus.
