Description

The Ross-Blakley Law Library at Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law is seeking applicants for a full-time Associate Librarian as the Associate Director of the Law Library.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a law librarian interested in a library administration role. This position reports to the Assistant Dean, Director of the Library. The successful candidate will oversee the technical services, acquisitions, and access services functions of the library, serve as the principal contact for the library's electronic resources vendors, manage the library in the Director's absence, teach between 1-3 credits of upper-level legal research each year, and participate in providing reference services.

 

The College of Law is located on ASU's downtown campus in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. This is a continuing appointment to track an academic professional position. Associate Librarians on the continuing status track are evaluated based on job performance, professional contributions, and service. 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Manages the technical services, acquisitions, and access services functions of the library
  • Assists the Library Director with personnel, strategic planning, budget, and administrative activities
  • Analyzes and manages the library budget
  • Acts as the primary liaison to vendor and publisher sales, licensing, and technical departments
  • Serves as the point person for passwords, updates, trials, demos, training, and troubleshooting of electronic information resources
  • Provides reference services to College of Law students
  • Teaches between 1-3 credits of upper-level legal research each year
  • Assumes responsibility for library operations in the absence of the Director
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the goals of the department
  • Physical presence at the workplace or the college is an essential function or requirement of this job

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an American Bar Association accredited institution
  • Master of Library Science (M.L.S.) or equivalent library degree from an American Library Association accredited institution
  • Minimum five years law library experience

 

Desired

  • Experience working in an academic law library
  • Experience providing reference services in an academic law library
  • Teaching experience, especially teaching legal research
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in library acquisitions and technical services
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, organizational knowledge-sharing, and team building
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
