Overview

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Project Controls Manager. This position is responsible for all “Project Level” controls, managing scheduling staff and working closely with project managers and other team members to monitor, coordinate, and control all budgeting and scheduling processes for water and wastewater projects. 

Work Location and Schedule

This position is primarily based in Charlotte, NC with some travel.

What You'll Do

  • Recruits, retains, manage, and provide leadership for project controls staff
  • Monitor performance and determine improvement areas by developing key performance indicators for critical department metrics.
  • Ensure financial information accuracy between program-level and subproject reporting.
  • Maintain current and forecasted Cash Flow data when compared to projected Cash Flow.
  • Create execute and monitors internal controls to ensure compliance and early issue resolution.
  • Provide direction for management of project budget and cost control functions including budgeting, scheduling, change management, estimating, tracking progress, forecasting, and earned value management
  • Oversee, identify plan deviations, and recommend resolution for project manager.
  • Complete ad hoc assignments to support capital transmission project delivery.
  • Manage project accounting databases to ensure timely security and control.
  • Offer direct financial communication with project team, internal financing department, and contractors.
  • Support Project Management Office Supervisor in project financial management and divisional reporting. 
  • Administer and coordinate routine contract work using prescribed and standardized methods.
  • Coordinate with Fleet administrative staff to correct income entry and equipment cost errors.
  • Conduct cost variance analysis and schedule against baseline values through PMI Earned Value Measurement technique.
  • Enforce actual project data collection and weekly accurate estimates.
  • Recommend and execute corrective actions to handle project compliance.
  • Plan for high-risk project strategic initiatives and ensure correct duration estimated tasks.
  • Identify deficiencies related to project financial and scheduling reporting and provide solutions to the business unit and corporation.
  • Responsible for succession planning and the development of leadership within the project controls staff to ensure the project controls area is prepared for future growth.
  • Assists Project Manager, Area Manager, and Regional Manager with forecasting and planning capital projects up to 5 years in advance.  
  • Attends project team status meetings as required.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

What You'll bring

Experience

  • (5) years or more of relevant Cost Control, Planning & Scheduling in Field Office experience including experience in training and directing others, OR ten (10) years or more of relevant Cost Control or Planning & Scheduling experience. 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, business administration, finance or accounting. Candidate should be trained on or familiar with project administration software and processes.  

Nice to Have

  • Preferred: MS or MBA
  • Trained on or familiar with project administra
