About the role

Mesa is seeking a Protection & Controls (P&C) Substation Engineer who will be responsible for the design and checking of deliverables associated with substation P&C design projects. Assigned tasks will include the creation and revision of panel front views, AC & DC elementaries, wiring diagrams, and yard equipment diagrams using MicroStation and AutoCAD. The ideal candidate will be able to juggle several projects with competing timelines and deliver high quality design products on time. A primary responsibility will be detailed checking of projects designed by less experienced associates. 

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of relevant Electrical Substation P&C Design experience
  • Experience performing scoping and estimating is desired
  • 4-year engineering degree.
  • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License is strongly preferred but not required

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize MicroStation and AutoCAD to create assigned deliverables
  • Meet client’s schedule and budget requirements
  • Perform P&C design with high degree of accuracy
  • Perform project scoping activities
  • Estimate project design efforts
  • Check and review other personnel work for accuracy and adherence to client and/or national standards 
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional overtime as needed
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers 

Location Requirements:

The selected candidate will be required to report to the Chattanooga, TN, Knoxville, TN, Fort Mill, SC office, or remote (for highly qualified individuals) from the southeast US on a full-time basis. After the candidate has established a satisfactory work history, there may be an option for a hybrid in-office/remote work arrangement if local to the Chattanooga/Knoxville/Fort Mill offices. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for a full-time remote position (in the southeast US regions) on a case-by-case basis but in office applicants will be given priority.
