Resources Team (Rapid Response and Vascular Access Teams) is a small group of extremely experienced RNs who are considered experts across multiple areas of care, including critical care, emergency care, pediatrics and CCT/flight team. This is comprised of 2 separate job roles-vascular access team (VAT) and rapid response team (RRT). VAT places PICCs, midlines and ultrasound guided IVs for patients with difficult vascular access or needing long term access. RRT is a 24/7 service that responses to patients requiring urgent/emergent escalation of care or assistance. VAT and RRT are used across inpatient areas.

Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, the Resource Nurse demonstrates leadership in clinical and professional practice utilizing the nursing process. The Resource Nurse will provide care to all patients with respect to their uniqueness using informed judgement, individual competence, qualifications, and collaboration with the health care team. The Resource RN supports 2 distinct and separate roles: Rapid Response RN/ Team (RRT) and Vascular Access Team (VAT). They will assist staff with escalation and rapid response situations and communicate with all areas of the patient care team. Directly assists the Administrative Clinical Coordinator with the coordination of patient care activities to reduce length of stay in all clinical areas improving patient flow. Adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Administration Scope and Standards of Practice to provide leadership with the nursing process. Utilize and support the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas as a part of his or her daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson caring Science Institute."


Essential Functions:

• Rapid Response Team role:
  * Monitors Deterioration Index (DI) Score and rounds on pts with significant changes.
  * First responder for all Rapid Response Activations – assist w/ assessment, care and telemetry transport of patient to higher level of care.
  * Shifts rounds on all units-
  * Pt rounds on recent transfers from critical care areas.
  * Bed meeting attendance/ huddle topics
  * Clinical education support
  * JC huddles/ tracers
  * Mock Code Blue education
  * Bedside assistance – resource for unfamiliar, difficult procedures or treatments
  * US PIV placement techniques
  * Education
  * Role of Rapid Response Team (RRT)
  * Unfamiliar, difficult procedures or treatments
  * Decompression of the Emergency Dept (as needed)
  * Cath lab activation
  * Trauma activation
  * MCI activation (50%)
• Vascular Access Team role:
  * Assessment – for appropriate access :
  * Peripheral lines
  * Midlines
  * PICC line
  * Pediatric IV
  * Catheter repairs
  * Catheter clearance
  * IV line draws
  * Documentation – for all assessment and procedures is complete, concise and reflects intervention
  * Monitors and maintains existing PICC lines
  * Ensures all tracking tools are up to date
  * Ensure supplies charges are submitted.
  * Provides education and training
  * Venous access assessment
  * Standard PIV competency
  * US guided PIV placement
  * Care and use of Midline
  * Care and use of PICC line (50%)

Education:

• Associate's Degree Required

Work Experience:

• Three years of professional acute care nursing experience Required
• One year of supervisory experience Required
• One year of adult critical care experience Required

Licenses:

• ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required
• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
• RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
• NIHSSI-Stroke Certification - ACHC - Accreditation Commission for Health Care

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance regulatory requirements and the Joint Commission Standards. (Signed ANA addendum)
• Strong understanding of the principals of customer service as it applies to patients, staff and the community
