Job Description

AECOM is hiring a Senior Environmental Engineer (Remediation) to join our Environment Business Line in Northern New Jersey or Metro New York. In this role you will support complex remediation, investigation, and infrastructure projects for public and private clients across the Northeast.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to lead multi-phase investigation and remediation programs, manage projects, and drive delivery excellence across some of AECOM’s most dynamic environmental portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental investigation and remediation projects from concept through completion, including remedial design, implementation, and long-term operations and maintenance (O&M).
  • Serve as project manager and technical lead for complex environmental projects involving soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor intrusion investigations.
  • Develop and oversee project scopes, schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, and deliverables in alignment with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate directly with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (e.g., NJDEP, USEPA, DRBC) to ensure regulatory compliance and effective communication.
  • Support preparation of work plans, remedial action reports, design specifications, permit applications, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Manage subcontractors and ensure all work is executed in accordance with AECOM’s quality and safety standards.
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposal preparation, scope and cost estimation, and client relationship management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline and 8+ years of relevant experience related to environmental engineering , site investigation, remediation, and project management or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and possess a valid US Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20+ years of relevant environmental engineering , site investigation, remediation, and project management experience
  • Experience supporting RCRA, CERCLA, and state-specific remediation programs.
  • Familiarity with groundwater modeling, aquifer testing, and environmental data management systems.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering design software (AutoCAD, gINT) and project management tools (MS Project, Oracle, BI tools).
  • Strong technical understanding of remediation technologies including in situ chemical oxidation, pump and treat systems, and vapor mitigation systems.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing environmental deliverables including remedial investigation reports, remedial action work plans, and O&M documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and technical staff.
