Role Description

Summary 

Fearless’ internship program provides college students and recent graduates with real-world experience in and knowledge of the government tech industry. This 10-week program is a full-time, paid, hybrid internship that will give you not just technical skills, but a broad variety of professional skills, such as interviewing, creating resumes, and networking for job readiness. 

The Software Engineer Intern will be a member of a highly organized agile team of Engineers, Testers, Designers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) on a project for a Government customer. The Software Engineer Intern will collaborate with other members of their team to understand development best practices in support of their project. You should apply for this if you’re curious about a career in software engineering / development. 

Responsibilities and Contributions 

• Works under the guidance of the team’s Scrum Master or Tech Lead to support project success.
• Engages with Software Engineers to understand, research, and share suggestions to improve the project’s tech stack.
• Observes and participates in customer meetings.
• Participates in agile ceremonies.

Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies  

Must-Have Skills

• Must have at least a 2.75 GPA.
• Has taken classes or majored in Mathematics, Computer Science, Programming or a related field. 
• Front end development skills.
• Experience with React, Typescript, and NextJs.
• Strong communication skills.
• Passion for helping your community.
• Motivation to learn new skills.
• Ability to collaborate with others — we work in a team environment here!

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills  

• Has taken classes in Web Application Development, Data Structures, and/or Algorithms.
• Experience with Express, AWS, Terraform, Next JS, and Cypress.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies.

• Technical Interview (Skills Fit): This is where we get into the nitty gritty of the project. During the Technical Interview, you’ll be interviewed by the technical team to dig more into your background and technical capabilities. 
• Business Interview: At this point, you’ve made it to the final frontier! The Business Interview is when you’ll meet with Fearless leadership to dot the i’s, cross the t’s, and determine whether or not we’ll be moving forward with the hiring process.
