JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Agricultural Sciences, Penn State Extension - Franklin County seeks to hire an Instructor for the Franklin County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Center. This individual will function as a member of the Penn State Extension - Franklin County 4-H team, collaborating with other members of the therapeutic riding center. PATH or PACTH Registered certification is strongly preferred. Progress in a recognized program leading to such certification is acceptable. Previous experience teaching horseback riding and/or driving lessons preferred. Previous experience working with people with disabilities preferred.

Major responsibilities include teaching lessons to students in the therapeutic riding center, maintain an active group of 16-18 lessons each week while the program is in active session, maintain and turn in lesson plans for each student, and work with Volunteer Coordinator to teach volunteers horsemanship skills. Other duties include assisting in planning and orchestration of center horse shows, assist in procuring program horses, training and assessing horses for use in lessons, attend required staff meetings and trainings, and other duties as assigned. In carrying out the assigned duties, the instructor will work directly with other FC4-HTRC staff, volunteers, and the FC4-HTRC Council. This position is administratively responsible to the Director of the FC4-HTRC.

This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
