Are you seeking a fulfilling opportunity to work with children and families while also fulfilling your federal work-study? We are looking for you! The Even Start Teaching Assistants are part of the Even Start Program in the Kenosha Unified School District. No prior teaching experience is required. This position is a great fit for students interested in a career working with children and families across a variety of settings. This job is open to all majors and will be a particularly good fit if you're majoring in education, sociology, psychology, or communication. The Even Start Program is seeking students who can work throughout the 2026-2027 school year. You must have federal work-study in order to be eligible for this role.
Job Duties
Assist with a variety of learning activities and projects that prepare preschool children for Kindergarten and help them gain English language skills. This includes helping prepare materials and assisting students and staff with activities.
Work collaboratively in a team setting with other Even Start Program staff to help families (parents and preschool children) strengthen their English skills.
Suggestions or ideas for creative lessons or activities for preschool children to complete are optional but welcome!
Hours and Compensation
The program runs Monday-Thursday during the school year between 8:30 -11:30 a.m. and 12:15-2:15 p.m. The average number of hours per week is 10-20.

Candidates should plan to commit to the role for the full Fall or Spring semester.
Even Start Child Care workers are paid $12.44/hour.
Qualifications
Must submit and pass KUSD’s criminal background check
Ability to work well with other co-workers in a team setting
Interest in working with children
Must have federal work-study

Please note that the Even Start Teaching Assistants will NOT be working on the UW-Parkside campus. The job site is the Kenosha School of Language, 6315 67th St., Kenosha, WI
This is a federal work-study position, which means only students who have elected federal work-study as part of their financial aid package are eligible. If you're not sure if you have federal work-study or have previously declined it and would like to change that status, please contact the UW-Parkside Financial Aid Office.
Even Start Teaching Assistants must have access to reliable transportation in order to get to and from the Kenosha School of Language.
