Director of Retail Technology

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Retail Technology to lead the evolution of our retail technology landscape. This role combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, shaping and executing a technology roadmap that ensures operational excellence, system security, enhanced customer experience, and innovation at the store level.

 

Key Activities Include:

• Execution & Operations
  • Lead the implementation and optimization of store systems (POS, inventory, workforce management, digital signage, etc.).
  • Engage directly in troubleshooting and supporting systems as needed—no task is too small.
  • Partner with field operations to pilot, test, and roll out new technology solutions with minimal disruption.
• Strategic Leadership & Planning
  • Develop and own the long-term retail technology strategy, aligned with business objectives and future growth.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to cross-functional leaders in store operations, merchandising, marketing, and finance.
• Team & Vendor Management
  • Lead a team of internal specialists and manage external technology partners and vendors.
  • Create accountability around execution timelines, quality of deliverables, and system uptime.
• Budget & Financial Oversight
  • Establish and manage a detailed technology budget, ensuring cost-effective investments with clear ROI.
  • Optimize vendor contracts and licensing to maximize value.
• Data & Insights
  • Ensure store systems capture the right data to power analytics and operational decisions.
  • Partner with data teams to improve data accessibility and accuracy across retail functions.
• Compliance & Security
  • Ensure all retail technology solutions meet relevant security, privacy, and compliance standards.

 

Qualifications

To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

 

Additional Qualifications Include:

• Minimum 8 years of experience in retail or consumer-focused environments required
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field required, MBA or similar advanced degree a plus
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a technology leadership role with direct reports
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% required. Travel is mostly to Spokane, Washington and Kapolei, Hawaii plus the surrounding areas to nomnom and Hele store locations.
• Demonstrated success in both hands-on technology implementation and strategic planning
• Strong understanding of retail systems and infrastructure, including POS, inventory management, digital retail, and mobile applications; PDI experience preferred
• Proven success managing budgets with discipline, along with experience in vendor relationships and negotiating technology contracts
• Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Passion for technology’s role in enhancing retail operations and the customer journey 
• A sleeves-rolled-up mentality—you are just as comfortable configuring a system as you are presenting a roadmap to the executive team.
