The group is also responsible for the development of final drug products as well as developing and scaling manufacturing processes to global manufacturing sites.

The summer intern will work with members of the parenteral drug product development group to plan, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments to develop an overall understanding of protein formulation, stability and manufacturing process.  The intern will focus on but not limited to the understanding and quantifying interaction between various surfactants and protein biologics using QCM.

Through the project, the intern will gain extensive hands-on experience on biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques for biologics including: QCM, Zeta potential, ultraviolet–visible (UV), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, light scattering, light obscuration, and microflow imaging. The intern will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge of laboratory equipment and experience with method development.

How You Will Contribute:

As a Biologics Formulation Development Intern, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Evaluate alternative surfactants to polysorbates among FDA approved excipient list

  • Examine protein-surfactant interaction mechanism

  • Develop methods for characterizing protein-surfactant interaction

  • Cooperate and confirm experiment results using orthogonal methods

  • Help with Takeda project related study

Internship Development Opportunities:

Through the internship, you will be able to:

  • Gain comprehensive knowledge of protein biologic formulation development process

  • Learn about biophysical and biochemical characterization techniques for biologics

  • Get exposure to in-use related study

  • Analyze experimental data to make conclusions and recommend additional experiments

  • Acquire hands-on experience with biophysical characterization instruments including but not limited to: QCM, Zeta potential, ultraviolet–visible (UV), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, light scattering, light obscuration, and microflow imaging

Job Requirements:

  • Hands-on laboratory experience (from previous internship, research lab, coursework)

  • Ability to develop and complete experiments independently

  • Strong communication skills to convey data

  • A candidate working towards their BS degree or graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, and Biological Sciences related is preferred.
