About the role

  • Ensure the reliability, security, and optimal performance of SQL Server databases both on-premises and in AWS.

  • Support business operations by maintaining database availability, integrity, and recoverability.

  • Enable development and analytics teams through effective database management, automation, and collaboration.

  • Drive continuous improvement and cost efficiency in database operations using best practices and cloud technologies.

  • Database Installation, Configuration, and Upgrades

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server instances (on-premises and AWS).

  • Deploy and maintain SQL Server on EC2 and Amazon RDS.

  • Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions in SQL Server and AWS.

  • Implement and monitor security best practices, including encryption and auditing.

  • Develop and maintain backup and restore strategies.

  • Manage automated backups and snapshots (native SQL and AWS tools).

  • Monitor database performance using SQL tools and AWS CloudWatch.

  • Troubleshoot performance issues, blocking, and deadlocks.

  • Schedule and automate regular maintenance tasks (indexing, statistics, consistency checks).

  • Monitor and manage database storage and capacity planning.

  • Configure and maintain high availability solutions (Always On, Replication, log shipping, clustering, CDC).

  • Support replication and data synchronization as needed.

  • Develop and maintain PowerShell and/or AWS CLI scripts for automation.

  • Automate routine tasks and reporting.

  • Set up and maintain monitoring and alerting for database health and performance.

  • Respond to incidents and resolve database-related issues promptly.

  • Document database environments, configurations, and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with application developers, infrastructure, and cloud teams.

  • Provide database support for development, testing, and production environments.

  • Technical SQL Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) architecture and components

  • Proficient in T-SQL for querying, scripting, and automation

  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Agent

  • Knowledge of database backup, restore, and recovery strategies

  • Understanding of SQL Server security (logins, roles, permissions, encryption)

  • Experience with database maintenance (indexing, statistics, consistency checks)

  • Experience with SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions (Always On, Log

  • Shipping, Mirroring, Clustering, SQL Replication and CDC technologies)

  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting (query optimization, deadlocks, blocking, wait stats)

     

  • AWS Knowledge

  • Understanding of AWS EC2 for hosting SQL Server instances

  • Experience with Amazon RDS for SQL Server (deployment, maintenance, backups, monitoring)

  • Familiarity with AWS storage options (EBS, S3) and their integration with SQL Server

  • Understanding of AWS networking basics (VPC, Security Groups, Subnets) as related to database deployments

     

  • General Skills

  • Scripting and automation using PowerShell or AWS CLI

  • Experience with monitoring tools and proactive alerting like Dynatrace

  • Documentation of procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Good communication skills for collaboration with developers, infrastructure, and cloud teams
