Position Summary:
The Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a counselor educator to join our faculty on a tenure-track line at the assistant professor rank with an emphasis in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, beginning in January 2026. The Department, located in Southeast Florida, includes eight faculty members and offers the M.Ed. in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counseling (all CACREP-accredited). In addition, the Department offers Ed.S. degrees. Primary responsibilities will include research and publication, grant writing, service, supervision, and teaching in a CACREP-accredited master’s program.
The information below outlines the essential functions, qualifications, and desired skills of the position.
Essential Functions:
1. Teach master’s and doctoral level courses in a CACREP-accredited counseling program, including a variety of formats (in-person, online, or hybrid)
2. Provide administrative support to the CMHC program
3. Advise and mentor master’s level counseling students and serve on doctoral-level dissertation committees
4. Participate in all meetings and assigned committees related to the counseling department
5. Develop and maintain an active research line in clinical mental health counseling and counselor education, including publications and presentations
6. Participate in service activities within the department, college, and university, as well as within state and national professional counseling organizations
7. Work collaboratively and ethically with other faculty, staff, and students within the department, college, and university while promoting the mission and goals of the department and counseling profession
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualification:1. Earned a doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program
2. Practical experience as a clinical mental health counselor in a range of settings
3. Currently holds or is eligible for a Florida clinical mental health license
4. Eligible for membership in Chi Sigma Iota
5. Teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level as an instructor of record or graduate teaching assistant
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of CACREP accreditation standards
2. Evidence of scholarly inquiry, grant procurement, and publication in ACA journals
3. An established record of peer-reviewed scholarly publications
4. Experience using instructional technology to deliver eLearning, hybrid courses, and supervision
5. Understanding of competency-based training
6. Knowledge of evidence-based mental health counseling programs
7. Evidence of active involvement with state, regional, national, and/or international counseling associations
8. Experience teaching graduate-level counseling courses and/or core general counseling coursework preferred
9. Effective oral and written communication and technology skills
10. Experience serving on doctoral dissertation committees
11. Three years of experience teaching and/or supervising for a CMHC program.
