Endoscopy ServicesOverview of Position:
Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and with other areas, adheres to universal precautions, and is compliant with infection control policies. Works independently with minimal supervision. Services as a patient advocate.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
2. Takes and records measurements or readings.
3. Assesses condition and provides treatment for the care of the patient.
4. Administers prescribed medications.
5. Facilitates cost reduction per procedure by not opening supplies that are not needed.
6. Participates in maintaining physician preference cards.
7. Accepts on-call schedule and responds to on-call activation within 30 minutes. 45 minutes.
8. Uses Epic system to enter orders, confirm orders, and print reports. May use other computer programs required in the area of responsibility.
9. May be asked to serve on department specialty focus team.
10. Follows Time-Out Policy.
11. Patient Advocate.
12. Hand Off Reporting to the recovering nurse.
13. Demonstrates proficiency with critical thinking related to immediate post-anesthesia management as evidenced by airway management, hemodynamics, thermoregulation, PONV, and pain management.
14. Accurately captures all applicable patient charges.
15. Ensures care and maintenance of workstations, including glucometer controls, maintaining warmers (re-stocking and temperature control), maintaining refrigerator (temperature control), cleaning and restocking of workstations, and defibrillator.
16. Demonstrates flexibility in accommodating work schedule, such as staggering shifts and coming in early or staying late as necessary.
17. Demonstrates proficiency in the administration of conscious sedation.
18. Proficient with pre-operative area expectations as evidenced by verification and completion of all needed procedural forms, assessment of patients, pre-operative order sets, and admission of pre-procedural patients.
19. Proficient with post-operative area expectations, including observations of patients post-sedation in both Phase I, PACU from general anesthesia, as well as Phase II from Monitored Anesthesia Care or conscious sedation, post-operative order sets, and discharge of post-procedural patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current Ohio RN License and Associate's degree of Nursing.
2. Current CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of employment.
3. Current ACLS certification or obtain within one year of employment.
4. Ability to read, write, and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
5. Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner.
6. Ability to read, calculate, and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
7. Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities, and carry out the established plan.
8. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care.
