Job Description

The Project Manager – Terminal Architecture (PM) will play a crucial role in the construction of San Diego International Airport’s New Terminal One (NT1) Program in a fast-paced, hands-on position that requires strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to thrive in a demanding environment.

In general, the Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing as owner’s representative the Architectural and Structural work of Design-Builder for the New Terminal 1 building and delivering the program on time and within budget. The focus of the PM will be on design management and change management for the building’s exterior enclosure systems, building substructure, superstructure, interior building systems for floor, walls and ceilings, including all finishes, millwork and furniture. This role requires coordination with various stakeholder groups including airport operations, 3rd-party stakeholders, maintenance personnel, and subject matter experts. The candidate must be well experienced in all types of architectural building systems as well as have strong technical knowledge, a diplomatic demeanor, and a proactive approach to problem solving. The PM will report to NT1 Terminal Program Manager in the Airport Design and Construction Department (ADC).

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage design evolution and review of deliverables, stakeholder coordination, phasing and schedule development.
  • Understand and implement owner’s Project Definition Document (PDD) requirements.
  • Participate in Design-Builder’s negotiations with regulatory agencies as owner’s representative
  • Manage scope enhancement requests (SERs) from stakeholders to meet project goals and objectives
  • Negotiate changes to the scope of work with the Design-Builder
  • Review the cost and schedule verification requests (CSRs) from Design-Builder for Merit against allowances in the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP)
  • Manage and monitor the Design-Builder’s submittal review process as owners’ representative for adherence to program requirements.
  • Maintain owner’s project management system (PMweb) to ensure timely processing of change orders, progress invoices and CSRs.
  • Coordinate and prepare responses to Design-Builder’s requests for information’s (RFIs).
  • Manage the project closeout process including review of O&M manuals, record drawings and as-built deliverables
  • Work with other team members to follow budget, schedules, and plan for all elements of the project
  • Ensure that the project meets or exceeds goals established by the owner
  • Work with ADC management to devise and execute action plans to rectify potential cost overruns or delays, or to accommodate significant changes to the scope of work
  • Promote excellence on the project through application of Quality Assurance processes
  • Promote a Safety-First approach in all matters and zero approach to accidents on projects.
  • Monitor and report to management on the progress of all project activity within the program, including significant milestones, and any conditions, which would affect project cost or schedule
  • Establish regular meetings to review project status and formulate action items
  • Contribute to the advancement of ADC’s goals through commitment to productive collaboration with all stakeholders
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • A valid Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain eligibility under the Airport Authority’s Authorized Drivers Program
  • Must pass drug and alcohol screening and background screening
