The University of Akron, one of Ohio’s leading public institutions of higher learning, seeks a dynamic individual for the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Program Director for our new ADN program at Medina County University Center. The Director reports to the Executive Director of Nursing and has responsibility for the associate degree in nursing program. The ADN Director works closely with faculty, contract professionals and other constituencies to develop innovative programming.  The ADN Director holds administrative and teaching responsibilities. 

The Program Director serves as the academic leader for the ADN program with administrative oversight for the program on a variety of student, faculty, budget, planning and personnel issues. Administrative responsibilities include the coordination and development of short- and long-range plans for the nursing program and evaluating and giving feedback to faculty on instructional performance. As a Non-tenure track faculty member, the Director follows the instructional and reporting expectations of faculty. The ADN program director is a 9- month teaching position with a $10,000.00 summer stipend.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Provide leadership for the ADN program day-to-day activities including curriculum development, faculty recruitment and evaluation, planning, student recruitment and retention  
  • Oversee program accreditation processes and compliance with all applicable state and accreditation requirements.  
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain successful community partnerships.  
  • Provide input into the budget, personnel programs, and physical facilities. 
  • Promote a caring, inclusive, and motivating work and learning environment.  
  • Coordinates the implementation of associate academic program including working with lead course faculty and makes faculty assignments in collaboration with the Executive Director of the School of Nursing or designee.
  • Participates in planning and teaching course activities 
  • Manage the needs of the learning resource center
  • Maintains course roster and class schedules 
  • Monitors student enrollment and progression 
  • Participates in the student grievance process 
  • Serves as member of appropriate School, College, and University committees 
  • Participates in School of Nursing committees to execute specific tasks. 
  • Assists with new faculty orientation for full and part time faculty in coordination with lead course faculty 
  • Coordinates clinical experiences with multiple affiliating agencies in collaboration with the Executive Director of the School of Nursing or designee. 
  • Identifies teaching needs for courses 
  • Oversees academic advisement 
  • Participates in solving problems pertaining to student matters 
  • Assists with program evaluation processes 
  • Prepare institutional, state and national reports directly related to the ADN nursing curriculum as appropriate. 
  • Evaluate graduate follow-up and employee satisfaction and communicate findings to faculty and administration. 
  • Interview prospective faculty and make recommendations to the Executive Director of the School of Nursing, as the need arises. 
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Director of the School of Nursing for planning and information sharing. 
  • Perform additional functions as delegated by the Executive Director of the School of Nursing. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A master's degree with a major in nursing (MSN) 
  • Experience for at least five years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse, two of which have been as a faculty member in a registered nursing education program 
  • Eligibility to work as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio  
  • Current BLS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  

  • Earned doctorate degree (PhD or DNP) in nursing or a related field with a master’s degree in nursing.  
  • A minimum of 2 years of administrative experience. 
  • 8 years as a registered Nurse, 5 years as a faculty in a nursing program.
  • Record of successful collaborative leadership, interprofessional collaboration, and community engagement.
